Erowid Goes Non-Profit!

The amazing drug and chemical resource Erowid.org has announced that "after two years of dealing with lawyers and red-tape" they've been giving the nod to establish the "Erowid Center," a tax-deductible charitable organization. That's a big step towards keeping Erowid funded as they do the yeoman's work of chronicling trip reports, news, and other entheogen ephemera to create the most comprehensive and balanced drug database online.

We wanted to send out this special announcement to let everyone know that after two years of dealing with lawyers and red-tape, the IRS has finally approved our new organization "Erowid Center" as a U.S. 501(c)(3) tax-deductible charitable organization. This is the news we've been hoping to get! With this formal approval, donations to Erowid Center are now tax-deductible in the U.S.

Receiving IRS approval is a big step in our goal towards making the Erowid project stable and sustainable over the long term. We hope that it will help us continue to improve the quality and reliability of available information about psychaoctive plants, chemicals, technologies and practices. We plan to begin Erowid Center's daily operations on Jan 1, 2008.

Erowid Center isn't yet set up to take donations by credit card, but if you would like to make a tax-deductible donation by check in 2007, please email us at [email protected]. We continue to be able to take non-tax-deductible donations through the website as usual, by credit card, PayPal, or check (www.erowid.org/donations/).

It was one of the FIRST resources, and as up to date as any informational drug website I've come across, been a fan since age 14.

We even donated 100 dollars 2 years ago, and they gave me a nifty "so many schedules, so little time" shirt (lost now unfortunately, will have to donate again soon).

So, freindly reminder, go over and throw them some cash, I sincerely believe that they were one of the main driving forces behind the culture we now so easily share as cultured, responsible, heads.

55,000 daily visitors, accessing over 3.8 million daily file hits, think otherwise. Perhaps, as Blacksoulman suggests, you might enlighten us as to a more comprehensive, unbiased drug information source.

Heh they finally accepted an early "trip" report I made on MDPV, so now I gots one of the most comprehensive reports in ANY category up . I must say that Erowid rules now .

P.S. J/K, it's actually just my first impressions (which no longer hold, for the most part). The one good thing is that it encourages frequent/small dosing, which is far & away the best method of dosing MDPV.

Sort of the point I was driving at. We here, are a cummunity of like-minded individuals, cultured, intelligent, but a minority. The same for modified people, we're privy to prejudice because our beliefs and that's why [i think] we've banded together.

I believe Erowid was one of the founding inspirations for that movement, plus communities like this. Of course not the first, if you want to pick knits you'd mention high times, they've been covering this stuff for years, but not every young ignorant about drugs kid is going have a subscription, but you know what? They have the internet, and erowid is the first thing that pops up on any search engine when you type in any compound. It's also probably saved more lives than we'd ever imagine.

To go off topic a bit on above points made, I really do believe we should (moreso) band together a bit more, we're a minority and we should be taking a bit more action, wether it's just meeting your fellow bluelighter, perhaps throw a small bluelight christmas party or some such (bme does this all the time, and usually at events involving at least 30 people practicing surgery without a license, very illegal yet they've run into no legal problems), start to the driving force in the change needed in societal views. Or, failing that (because we know most people are unavoidably doomed and beyond fixing), get smashed and have a fucking hell of a fun party.

precisely. If you know nothing it's has always been a good site to browse.

Personally I think erowid have missed a trick though in keeping up with technology as once people have read what's available they naturally want to discuss it. Sites like bluelight offer far more in that aspect. Trip reports also seem very labourious and slow to appear on erowid.

Erowid hasn't changed that much, it could have done with a good forum a while back.

It's definately good at what it is but I do think it has been slow to keep up.

adding a forum to erowid would add even more hassles and whatnot.. they'd have to police it constantly for people trying to buy and sell drugs

it does feel somewhat dated but it's still a good resource for an "at a glance" rundown of most popular substances
