I'll start off with some background info and observations. This is mostly to do with my girlfriend, but figured it may spark some interesting discussion.

She has had epilepsy since she was 8. Photosensitive mostly but there are other factors that can contribute to her seizures. Before I met her, she was having at least one a week, the first time we met was the first time she smoked weed. Since then it has become a regular habit. Since we have been together she hasn't had a single seizure. I don't know if it's coincidence, but it seems that bud has actually helped with her epilepsy. She was on two types of medications epilum and something starting with k, can't remember what it was but she was weened off them 3 months after she started smoking.

Before introduing her to any other substances we took great precautions. Lots of research atempts and minute amounts ingested, slowly increasing the dosages. When it comes to psyches, she can handle them better than anyone I know. That is, she claims to have lesser effects than what everyone else is describing. She also normally has higher doses than everyone else now. My guess is the epilum is contributing to her lesser effects. These substances include LSD, shrooms, 2c-I, 2c-e and mdxx substances.

On one occasion she has smoked dmt. This is where my question lies and where it gets interesting. She had a moderate dose, enough to induce fair visuals but. No breakthrough. She described the feeling of the dmt coming as the same as the onset of a seizure, which scared the shit out of her. She didn't have one though, and I believe she just wasn't prepared for its intencity. Lately she has been asking if it would be a good idea on trying for a breakthrough, but I am really unsure of the actual pressure dmt can cause within the brain, and am reluctant to let her try it until I am convinced otherwise. I tried reading up on it but there is a surprisingly limited amount of real info on epilepsy with any substances. I know the whole idea is probably frowned upon, but that's not helpful.

Has anyone had any firsthand experience with such thing, and can anyone comment on the physical bodily effects of dmt (or other psyches in general)?

[originally posted in audd, but probably more suited here]

well tbh i would be very nervous for her to use weed let alone psyches. I have heard of alot of bad seizures occuring when epileleptics are taken off their anticonvulsants. But i guess shes been having good results so far and my friend has epilepsy and he smokes weed all the time and hes fine, but im not sure if he has stopped his meds. I would be careful, i have read in many places (mainly my anatomy and physiology book) that epilepsy can be managed but mind altering substances can pose quite a risk. good luck and be safe

I wouldn't be comfortable (or doing other psyches) smoking DMT with a unmedicated epileptic.

Do *not* drink ayauasca. Caapi is a benzodiazapene antagonist and can cause seizures.

I am a medicated epileptic.

Please be very careful, this is not a game..

Hence why we always that precautions. Have you yourself tried dmt? Btw she is still on medication, just one type instead of two.

oh ok well thats good, but still idk man thats taking a risk with her. I guess she is doing ok, but just continue with those precautions.

A putative mechanism for psychedelic action involves an increase in signal gain in recurrent circuits inside your noggin'. This is a Bad Idea when coupled with the model of epilepsy where 'runaway' excitatory currents cause a sort of avalanche effect.

Epileptics shouldn't play with drugs. Doubly so for powerful mental stimulants.
