How does ephedrine compare to amphetamines? Does it provide a potent mood boost?

(-)-Ephedrine and both isomers of pseudoephedrine are norepinephrine releasing agents with essentially no affinity for the dopamine transporter and will just make you twitchy and decongested. They are not comparable to amphetamine, which is a norepinephrine and dopamine releaser.

(+)-Ephedrine is the "active" isomer of ephedrine but even then it is primarily a norepinephrine releaser comparable to phenteramine (Adipex). It is roughly 1/10th of amphetamine's potency as a dopamine releaser and will only provide a mild mood boost at best.

Racemic ephedrine would basically be a shittier version of phenteramine.

Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are good for mild, non-recreational stimulation and decongestion. They aren't worth "abusing" for modd elevating effects because vasoconstriction and other cardiac effects become uncomfortable at those levels.

Ephedrine is a dirty jittery stimulant with strong peripheral sideffects. I'd say it's ~1/5th the strength of amphetamine mg per mg as a stimulant, but 1-2x as effective at producing peripheral sideffects, just to throw out some real ballpark figures based on personal experience, which may be inconsistent with that of others (see below).

Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant. I have never observed any stimulant effects, peripheral or central, from pseudoephedrine, and i'm normally quite sensitive to stimulants (I take amphetamine in the 1mg range therapeutically for ADD, and get a high off of 2-3mg of amphetamine, and similarly low quantities of most other stimulants).

Also, what's with this "is classified as an amphetamine"? By whom? Based on what criteria? When people just throw around classifications like that, without making it clear what the definition they're using is, the claim is deceptive... Ephedrine is structurally related to amphetamine (being 1-phenyl-2-methylamino-propan-1-ol, or beta-hydroxy-methamphetamine), and produces stimulant effects via a similar mechanism, just nowhere near as well. I could name a bunch of chemicals that are structurally related to amphetamine and are psychoactive which aren't stimulants, or are not straight stimulants, etc, which still could be classed as amphetamines.

Adapex... that's what I would compare it to, not as strong as adderal, stronger than red bull... good if you wanna stay up and work but not gonna get you buzzed... also I would eat something around the time that you take it for no jitters

Ephedrine is great to wake you up, much better than caffeine IMO, or better when you mix the two. Not really recreational but it's fucking great for hay fever (like it says on the bottles I buy). Ephedrine used to keep me awake and alert while on benzos/opiates so it was quite effective in that regard. But no, nothing like amphetamine recreationally at least.

This guy pretty much said it all. Ephedrine is pretty dirty and I wouldn't consider a "mood booster". I have used it for studying for sure, but that's about the extent of its usefulness. It's a pretty darn good decongestant though.
