Stimulants Ephedrine 25mg Cause A Drug Test False Positive In This Scenario?

First off thank you guys and gals for reading my lengthy post. Most all of all thank you in advance for your input. Here is my situation: I has a pre-employment drug screening this past Thursday for a life changing career. I have NEVER used any illegal or non-prescribed drugs of any sort (I am 30) the doctor doing the screening asked if I was on any medication and I told her no (I associated the term medication with prescription pills) i didn't think anything else about it. However Saturday morning I had a slight congested feeling so I reached for my Primatene tablets that I take about twice a week. (these contain 25mg Ephedrine a dose) I then realized that maybe I should have listed those as a medication in case they show on my results.

Fast forward i did a bit of research online and realized that Epherdrine is well known for causin gals positive! I panicked of course. So I went to my local drug store and purchased a self-test kit that does check for the presence of amphetamines. This was about 2 hours after I had originally taken my normal dose. I did the test and it showed negative on everything. Which made me feel a bit better. However I am still concerned that this somehow could show up in a lab analysis an cause me problems. I know I should have listed the Primatene and saved myself the headaches but I honestly never thought of it.

When I took the urine test it had been around 36 hours since I had last taken a dose and I am a 250lb male if that matters. I also had to do a hair folicle test of the job as well. I looked at the paperwork and both are going to the same lab (Psychemedics) for analysis. What do you people think is the likelihood of me having an issue with this showing up as Meth use or Speed use? If it does show up as positive on the urine test, will the hair folicle test be able to differentiate between actual drug use and OTC product usage? Thanks!

If you fail the initial test for pre-employment they run the sample through GC-MS to confirm whether the positive was a false positive, or actually caused by amphetamine, or amphetamine related substances. GC-MS can tell the lab analysts what is actually in the sample, as molecules have their own signature when run through the machines. The mass spec will have a different splitting pattern for amphetamine than it would for ephedrine, allowing one to recognize a false positive.
 
SplatChrome: Thank you for the reply. My only concern is that they actually do automatically run it through GC-MS upon a positive and not just say, "it's positive." and not do the GC-MS because of the associated cost. Which I guess if they are willing to pay the cost of a urine test and hair test than cost isn't much I a concern compared to some employers. You're input is a great help, thanks again.
 
It is completely forbidden across the board, please read the BLUA (Bluelight User Agreement)
