ephedra alkaloids / ephedrine use and damage

i was wondering if anyone knows alot about the negative effects of ephedra alkaloids and ephredine short and long term use?
is there a good page out there on it?
my friend is looking to take metabolife 356 diet supplements. it says on it that it may cause damage form the ephedra. she is good health otherwise, just a little fat but athletic.

about 8 years ago, i started taking ephedra to stay up all night at parties. it wasn't long before I built up a tolerance to it, and moved on to something harder, in my case glass and crystal. that's one possible negative thing. another problem is that if you use an epherda-based product to lose weight, then you have to continue using it, if you don't change other patterns in your life (what you eat, how much you eat, how much exercise you get etc.), or else you'll gain the weight back, and possible some extra.
as far as long-term problems, i have a friend who took ephedra for a LONG time, and she took quite a bit of it, and she now has heart problems. she's only 28. ephedra has been known to contribute to health issues like heart problems, because it speeds up your heart rate... so that's something else you might want to check into...
the best advice for losing weight is to do it the hard way. cut out the bad carbohydrates from your diet, eat more protein, cut down on the amount you eat and exercise regularly...
 
what type of heart problems?
she is changing her diet properly and exercising but just needs that little extra kick in the ass. this "speed" gives it to her.
also she will only be taking it for about 3 months with the recommended doses.

my friend has what i think is called heart arrhythmia, where her heart beats too fast. she takes prescription meds to slow it down.
if your friend is only planning on taking the recommended doseage etc, i'd still tell her to check with her doctor before she begins taking anything. you never know what might pop up unexpectedly...
