Seen this being sold on a RC site they reckon it causes visuals similar to LSD, anyone even heard of it?

Elemi Oil - 20ml Amber Bottle with dropper
*WARNING*

Ensure room is well ventilated when using Elemi Oil and do not ingest as misuse can lead to psychedelic experiances similar to a cross between mescaline and LSD.

not that wiki is the end all be all but a quick search came up with:

"Elemi is used as a herbal medicine to treat bronchitis, catarrh, extreme coughing, mature skin, scars, stress, and wounds. The constituents include phellandrene, dipentene, elemol, elemicin, terpineol, carvone, and terpinolene."

If its being used to treat bronchitis, coughing, etc then I doubt it has effects resembling LSD. Could be wrong though. I know DXM has interesting effects, but tis not like LSD. Maybe its only when you ingest a huge amount of Elemi Oil that you find these effects..

reading bout one of the constituents, elemicin, its also found in nutmeg. Again nutmeg, like DXM, can have interesting effects but again its not LSD.

This is sounding more and more like a compound that could potentially be alright but that also 9/10 people would find unpleasant.

There is a trip report in TR on this. Seems pretty hard to believe to me.

On another major Harm Reduction and Drug Discussion forum (where you are also a member) there is a pretty extensive (considering how obscure the compound is) collection of information, extraction methods, potentiation methods, and trip reports. I highly recommend you check it out!

Google it!

Apparently the effects, according to one user, include:
-A mescaline-like euphoria
-Light LSD-like visual effects, present at higher doses. Not nearly as sharp/apparent.
-Stimulation
-At higher doses, due to other compounds present in Elemi Oil, an undesirable (to some) sedation that subtracts from the euphoria/psychedelic effects.

[Edit] Here is a bit of information, gathered from around.

Elemi oil contains about 4% elemicin. Elemicin is nearly identical in structure to both TMA and mescaline. It also occurs in nutmeg along with higher amounts of myristicin (which is generally undesirable). Elemi oil contains no myristicin and is very different chemically from nutmeg

Why Elemi Oil does not work for many people:
CYP1A2 is an enzyme in the human body that is primarily responsible for inactivating elemicin. German chamomile tea greatly inhibits CYP1A2. Some people have high amounts of CYP1A2 and will not easily get effects from elemicin. If taken with German chamomile tea at 5+ grams, this problem is fixed.

There is a lot of speculation about elemi oil elsewhere, but none of it is even remotely conclusive. The individual variability is about as extreme as I have come across. Some people have claimed to have overwhelming experiences with 1/5 of doses that provide others no effects at all. I still don't buy the idea of elemicin being aminated in vivo, but I would love to see some definitive receptor docking studies on it.

I remember reading about 69ron dosing elemi in capsules with home made enteric coating. I wonder if that ever worked out.
the coating seems like a lot of trouble to go through but interesting none the less.

It does seem extremely variable. There is some speculation as to a few reasons why, though. Anyways, curiosity got the better of me and I went up to my local herb room and found a local company selling 100% pure GS/MS analyzed Elemi Oil, 8ml for the price of a hamburger.

So I am brewing some chamomile tea, I plan to take around 1 ml, and I will report back with results later this evening. :D

[Edit] According to Wiki, caffeine is also a CYP1A2 Inhibitor. Good thing I've been at AA all day =D

ron is very self serving, he has a lot of people believing in stuff thats really just his opinion.

from very subjective "trip reports", to flawed extraction techniques.

elemi & thh... sigh

I got some this past summer after reading about it on a drug forum similar to this one. Not sure whether mine was bunk or I'm just a "hardhead", but it did nothing any of the times I tried it. Clary sage essential oil is more effective than Elemi (and no, it's not purported to be psychoactive. That's how ineffective Elemi oil is.) I tried taking it alone and with mescaline, both times ending up with a dehydration headache feeling the following day. YMMV

Still have half a bottle in the cabinet. Gonna try it in the diffuser I guess. The smell isn't half bad.
