Hi Guys,

I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate forum, but as it's geared towards EDM I thought it's worth a shot.

Does anyone know what the electronic music scene is like in Southern Cali? I'm moving to San Diego from Europe soon, but have no idea what the score is regarding what the music scene is like there. When clubbing, house and techno is my cup of tea - the likes of Sven Vath, Jeff Mills, Loco Dice, Luciano etc are the sort of nights I'd go out of my way for.

Just wondering if that's something I'll likely encounter in over there. Also, the likes of Bonobo, Thievery Corporation and other downtempo electronica is cool in a bar situation. Anyone familiar with the potential of finding places like that to chill with a few beers?

US is way different from europe in that you are unlikely to get a serious act in a bar or small club...not to say it doesnt happen, but its way unlikely. theres a damn good chance there will be local djs playin whatever you style is somewhere, but you have to find them.
 
Yeah, local dj's are fine also - just listed the big guys to give an idea of the sort of style I'm after.

Once I get there the search will begin to scout out the local talent :D

Nice to know there are places that play that kind of stuff though, thanks for the heads up...

EDIT - just had a swatch at the flyer. Quality line up, definitely the sort of stuff I'm interested in!
 
Dude, you will have no problem with music where you are going, they bring lots of people through and LA is pretty close too if you want to go on a roadtrip.
 
Imho, dont bother with clubs as they stick to Hip Hop and commercial Electro House. The event scene is pretty taboo in societies eyes and its getting a bad name. But theres always something around here, just need to do a bit of research to find what youre looking for.
