Me and some buddies went to a music fest called summerset the past summer, and it was an amazing experience to say the least. However, it left us hungry for more and so we started doing more research on other festivals. We came to the conclusion that Electric Forest is probably our best bet for a festival in the midwest area. So, have any of you Bluelighters ever been to the forest? What was it like? Do you suggest this as the next festival we should attend?

All stories, opinions, and comments welcome :)

I hadn't heard of it, but it looks pretty good.

I'm interested though - the production looks pretty psychedelic & typical of a psy-trance festival kind of, but I don't recognise any of the artists on the lineup.

What kind of music is this?

Its hard to pick a specific genre to put because lots of the bands performing come from all sorts of genres. Some dubstep/trap/house shows, some funk/jam band, mainly just good EDM all around

I have been too the forest the last 2 years. It is a magical place I highly recommend you go! And VIP tickets are worth every penny if you can afford them

I've heard that the experience of meeting people in "tent city" (the general admission field where everyone stays) is so amazing that VIP isnt even worth the extra money. Have you camped both VIP and GA? And if so, you still like VIP better?

my girlfriend and I are going this summer it looks rad as fuck never been though. good lineup last year.

Yeah the lineup last year was incredible. They really need to release some of the big artists coming this year, I can't wait any longer!

Dude, Electric Forest, while it is still better than alot of other East Coast music festivals is still a Corporate Shill.
It beats ULTRA and all of those other Monstrosity music festivals.

What i can suggest to you, as a person who, was looking for the same kind of experience you were.
Go to B.C. The Kootenanys has some of the best music festivals. A Whole entire circuit that lasts all summer long.
Starting with Astral Harvest, Motion Notion, Bass Coast, Shambhala.

Shambhala is Canadian Burning Man, and it's owned by a Private family.

any gathering of friendly like minds is a good time

just go and enjoy things as they come

:)

I'm going to Forest! It really is an experience beyond words. Also ... I bought an air mattress that is a couch and pulls out to be a bed and I'm pretty excited about getting to use that... Lol

Oh man I went to Rothbury the second year they started it. Saw Bob Dylan, The Dead, String Cheese, Les Claypool, etc. It changed my life that is for sure.i haven't made it to any music festivals since then though and that was back in 2009 I think? I miss those vibes that forest was mystical to say the least.

been there in 2010, 2012, 2013. pretty wild place. at least half of the lineup is garbage every year though. the place is huge though, it litterally takes an hour and a half or more to walk from the back of the camping area, get through the gates, and all the way to sherwood court. seeing the dead was awesome. cheese was always surprising. i lost my ego and all my shit when the music stopped between cheese and bassnectar, ended up with a huge scar around my arm somehow while running around screaming that everyone was gonna die. the silent disco is dope, my friend popped a balloon while filling it during thriftworks and i felt like it was super obvious but no one even looked. i traded a cold beer for a purple microdot once. i was walking up and down the isles at like 5am all spun out and some old guy pointed me out from quite a ways away and told me to come over. so i walked over and hes like i made that shirt(my favorite dye, flower of life on my chest and honey comb stencil for the rest of the front) i was like really? somewhat in disbelieve, so im like oh yeah?how did you make the back? and he didnt even hesitate and explained it was airbrushed through a table doyle.. it was totally bazaar to me, he was from kalamazoo michigan. i have never seen so many sky lanterns as the last night of electric forest 2013. im not even going to start on the actual "forest" area... amazing.
3 sets of sts9 in 2012 was probably my favorite set out of all the years i went.

summerset is a complete shitshow, so many "rules" yet you can get away with anything if have the balls to try.
last year we didnt buy tickets and still saw every act we wanted to see plus more, plus both afterparties.

im super pumped for the smaller dubstep/glitchhop festival in the midwest that just released their lineup yesterday. i have been to the last 5 of those festivals.

i will not be going to ef this year though. just hitting up some smaller fests this year.

A lot of the Psy di.fm crowd have some weekenders in Northern NY state during the summer. Seems like a good time if you are into the whole psy scene.

A lot of the "festivals" around here are not something I'd go to, personally. Its these weird mixed bag electronic, rock, folk festivals. I want to camp, dance my ass off to Psy, hard techno, non-mainstream Trance, hardcore, for 3 days...and never see an acoustic guitar.

I am going and staying on the back 40 in a log home. There should definitely be a roll call for anyone from BL...
