I saw a bloke in town the other day wearing a blue shirt with a Eureka stockade flag on the front. (Typical trade union symbol) and I commented and said something like "nice shirt mate". He said nothing more than "Vote that little fucker johnny out next weekend" or something of the sort.
I loled.

:D

next time say hi to lostpunk for me ;)

I deny ever being in Byron Bay. Too many fucking hippies there!

I'm also an extremist. I really can't decide on the death penalty though. I am against it for the fact that innocent people die but I think some people deserve to die.

Howard Keeps Australia's Media Moguls Rich With Your Money

16 Months, $500 Million

Nobody does more to keep the flow of taxpayer cash running hot into the pockets of Australia's extremely wealthy media moguls than John Howard.

In just 16 months, according to this story, the Howard government has spent a mind-boggling $500 million dollars on anti-Labor, anti-union fear campaigns, pro-WorkChoices propaganda and so-called 'government-funded information advertising'. The Howard government has spent more than $1 million a day on ads, for almost 500 days running.

But it's not government-funded advertising, it's You Fund It :

The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet's annual report showed $281 million was spent on government advertising last financial year.

And the splurge didn't stop in July. Another $209 million was spent in the run-up to the poll announcement five weeks ago.

The most recent ad campaigns centred on changes to WorkChoices, climate change policy, changes to superannuation and internet safety.

Mr Howard defended the spending, declaring it all "legitimate", but Labor leader Kevin Rudd condemned it, pledging if elected on Saturday to tighten rules governing the use of taxpayers' money for publicising information campaigns.

The Howard government now spends more taxpayer dollars on advertising, per head of population, than any other country in the world.

You won't be surprised to learn that the Herald Sun, one of the big beneficiaries from such advertising splurges, buried this story under a headline about how John Howard backs his "good mate" Peter Costello to takeover the Liberal Party leadership when he finally quits.

John Howard calls directing half a billion dollars of your money into the pockets of some of Australia's richest people being economically responsible and "fiscally conservative."

UPDATE : I shouldn't be so hard on the Herald Sun. At least they ran the $500 Million In 16 Months On Ads story, even if they did so under a headline about another story. The Australian managed to wind back the impact of the revelations of Howard government ad spending this way :

Government Spends $196 Million On Ads

True enough, but as the Herald Sun article clearly reveals, it's not even half the real story.

^ good article man. Its so hard to read such journals of record and watch tv drivel without chuckling to yourself

I think I could support tax payer funded advertising if those ads where building awareness or providing useful information on policies or initiatives that would benefit society.

However a lot of this anti the other party or anti this organisation is no different than what Goebbels was doing 60 or so years ago

I can finally participate in this thread. I found a reason.

Sabah-born Wong ready to take down Howard

MELBOURNE: A Sabah-born woman has become the face and voice of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) seeking to defeat Prime Minister John Howard’s government in Saturday’s federal elections.

Senator Penny Wong Ying Yen, described by Canberra parliament journalists as “the smart rising star of Australian politics”, has been bunkered for six weeks at the ALP campaign headquarters in Sydney planning Howard’s downfall.

Wong is the first Asian-born woman to sit in the Australian parliament

Howard’s Liberal-National Party Coalition has been in power for more than 11 years.

Almost all opinion polls published in major newspapers in the past 10 months have indicated an ALP victory.

Wong, 38, the first Asian-born woman to sit in the Australian Parliament, is the daughter of Kota Kinabalu architect Francis Wong Yit Shing.

She came to Adelaide as an eight-year-old student and went on to become a lawyer before winning a seat in the Senate in 2002 for a six-year term, representing the state of South Australia.

Wong has taken time to campaign for former high-profile TV presenter Maxine McKew who is contesting in Howard’s Bennelong seat, which has significant Chinese and Korean communities.

“Many Chinese in Bennelong remember John Howard’s call to reduce Asian immigration when he was Opposition leader in the 1980s,” Wong was quoted as saying by a newspaper.

If the opinion polls are correct, Howard could even lose his seat. – Bernama

Yeah sure did, I think it is the nail in their coffin.
They have nothing to offer so all they can do is lie and try to scare people.
It highlights the mindset of the current government I believe.

Chaser to Kelly: Come and work for us!

The Chaser has invited outgoing Liberal MP Jackie Kelly to apply for a job with the comedy team, after she described a political scandal involving her husband and the Liberal party as just a "Chaser-style of prank".

The Liberal Party was implicated in the dirty tricks campaign after a senior NSW party official and Ms Kelly's husband, Gary Clarke, were caught distributing bogus pamphlets that portray Labor as sympathisers of Islamic terrorists.

Speaking on ABC radio this morning, Ms Kelly said she did not approve of the pamphlet, but labelled it a "Chaser-style of prank".

"I think if you read it you'd be laughing. Most people who have read it have said 'That's a Chaser-style of prank'," Ms Kelly said.

The Chaser's executive producer Julian Morrow has now invited Ms Kelly, who will retire after the election, to join the comedy team.

"Jackie will obviously be looking for a job," Morrow said.

"One of the criticisms of The Chaser is that we don't have any women on our team.

"Bronwyn Bishop has got the inside running, but Jackie is welcome to make an application."

Morrow questioned whether the Liberal party "prank" had truly been in the spirit of The Chaser.

"If this was really a Chaser stunt, where were the big props, where was the Osama Bin Laden costume," he asked.

"The only real similarity [with a Chaser gag] is that the Liberals in Lindsay got caught and may be facing charges.

"It's a bit of a worry when the best argument you have to defend your ethical practices is that you were doing what The Chaser does.

"We are hoping this will lead to a profitable political consultancy for The Chaser in the future."
