Ego Death: A Paper

Came across the following in a review of the book "Lucid Living: A Book You Can Read in One Hour That Will Turn Your World Inside Out" by Tim Freke (one of the authors of the outstanding "Jesus and the Lost Goddess" about all the prior similar myths of a dying/resurecting God/Man and their connection to the mysticism of the early Gnostic Christians). I think it might summarize nicely the mental & emotional "message" that many people receive during or after coming back from ego-death experiences":

WE ARE ALL ASLEEP IN THE ILLUSION THAT WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS AND THAT WE HAVE A BODY AND A MIND AND HAVE THOUGHTS. HOWEVER WE CAN WAKE UP BY REALIZING THAT WE ARE NOT HUMAN WE ARE SIMPLY THE AWARENESS THAT PERCEIVES THE ILLUSION OF US BEING A HUMAN WITH A BODY.THE UNIVERSE IS NOT EXTERNAL, OUR TRUE UNIVERSE IS WHAT THE MIND CREATES FOR OUR AWARENESS THROUGH OUR SENSES.ALL OF OUR REALITY HAPPENS INSIDE OF OUR AWARENESS NOT OUTSIDE.YOUR THOUGHTS,BODY,MIND,BRAIN,SENSES,AND NAME ARE NOT YOU, YOU ARE THE ONE THAT WITNESSES ALL THESE THINGS. WAKE UP!

Please, keep the good stuff coming! Looking forward to your next two papers.

The shamanism paper will be done very soon. I'll be sure to update the thread when it is done. Thanks for the kind words.

I actually haven't read any of Carl Jung's works before believe it or not. I've been meaning to for quite some time, so you've spurred me to do so now :)

You'll certainly get a lot out of it if you are into psychology and understanding yourself. Carl Jung was simply unmatched in his scope and understanding of the psyche.

There is a bit too much quotes for my liking but I certainly relate your experience to what I experienced a few years ago. I also had an atheist education in my childhood and was amazed to read about the concept I experienced during a psychedelic experience in a book about XVI century mystic (Eckhart von Hochheim) I had never heard about ! And then in Buddhist texts, etc.

Congratulations for your efforts !

I hear ya about the quotes - I am constantly editing it and wonder if I should take a few out. Thank you for reading nonetheless.

Thank you so much. I had an experience 3 years ago where I "died."

I believe I will come back and better explain myself.. I feel I'm not doing a great job right now getting my point across (or any for that matter). My brain is on overload at the moment. As I said, your paper shook me. Thanks.

I am glad that you were able to identify with the paper. Please do come back when you have gathered your thoughts. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or in private messages.

great read! inspiring... glad i took my time to look this one over :)

Thank you for taking the time to read it; I appreciate the feedback.

This is really great! I enjoyed how you wove together and articulated this message. And you last quote is from a really awesome book, I'm glad to see it there.

Again, thank you very much. I am happy to see that so many have equated with the message. The Phenomenon of Man is indeed an incredible book.

One final bump for this thread; thank you to all who participated.

The other papers will be coming shortly.
