Effexor XR - Help please

Ok well I recently just switched from Paxil to Effexor XR. So I was on Effexor XR 37.5mg (starting dosage) for 5 days, and then just today I went up to Effexor-XR 75mg. Well anyways, I have heard that with SSRI's and SNRI's and different antidepressants that often it can make you feel much more anxious at first.

Well, this past week I have been more anxious than usual and I am pretty sure it is due to the Effexor. Now I have been on Effexor-XR in the past, but I didn't have the anxiety side effects because I was taking medium to large dosages of benzo's and I was also on methadone at the time, so I have no idea whether it did help my bad depression and my general anxiety/panic disorder or what because basically the effexor was being masked my high dosage of methadone + benzo's. I don't even know why I went off of it. But anyway, that was a few years back.

Now I have been clean from benzo's for about 7 months now, except for a few nights I had some Valium a couple weeks ago, but it was very little and only for a few days, or even a day or two. So as of now, I am have been taking Oxycodone daily, I kind of relapsed on that, and my tolerance seems to be going right back to where it used to be (600mg/day), but nowhere near that dosage yet. My daily Oxycodone dosage is usually about 160mg - 220mg daily. But I take Diphenhydramine on a daily basis, right before I dose my Oxycodone, in order to potentiate the effects.

So basically I am wondering if I should be taking the diphenhydramine or not since I now am on 75mg of Effexor-XR. I cannot remember if Diphenhydramine and SSRI's, or SNRI's whatever is a harmful combination? And also if other people noticed increased anxiety from starting Effexor-XR? I have been feeling super anxious lately. Thoughts or ideas guys? :\ :(

Oh and by the way - I am trying to taper down on my Oxycodone usage as I do have OxyContin 80mg pills that my brother and I are splitting since he just got a prescription and is going to eventually try and taper as well as we share the same habit. So we have about 50 OxyContin 80mg pills to deal with here, although selling a few here and there to get some cash back from spending money on buying them off the street.
 
no dihpenhydramine is fine to take on Effexor XR. I took 100mg ever night to sleep while on 75mg of effexor xr.
 
I am also on Effexor XR 150mg daily. It does, in fact, cause anxiety at first. The biggest problem with Effexor XR is the withdrawl effects if you run out. Paxil and Effexor are the only anti's that cause this. Believe me it happened to me for 3 days a week ago. I was dizzy and so sick. It's horrible.
 
I'd say a doctor is the only one who can give a qualified answer to that question. If you don't want to tell him about the drug usage then like any other time you use, you roll the dice and take your chances. I doubt if anybody here can help. It's like me asking someone how much crystal meth can I put in my system before I OD? now how can anybody possibly answer that correctly? everybody's different and when you start mixing all this other shit into your drug diet then it just complicates things more.

I know about Effexor. I took it for a year when I thought I had ADHD. It more of an anxiety disorder. I was on Venlafaxine and it was the best shit in the world for at the time. I thought I felt high but it doesn't really do that. It cuts off the dopamine, cerotonin (don't feel like checking the spelling, sorry) and adrenaline from your nerve cells.

It sounds kind of wierd to mix it with street drugs becauseI'm not even sure how one could get high but hey if it works then it works. It'll fuck up your chemstry and send it out of wack from I understand. Anytime you do that, especially long term...well I won't go there.

I've never been anxioux with Effexor.

BUT, Anxiety is a common side effect with EFFEXOR for some people (expecially in the first weeks)

Note I agree with "mister right" : when you want to stop it, be carefull with Effexor : stop it very slowly. If you stop it too quickly you will have really bad effects.
 
ive never had anxiety off effexor, but be really careful because the withdrawals are super bad. ive experienced them on a few occasions and i can tell you, they are A BITCH

however, as long as you remember to take your meds and never miss a dose you will be fine, effexor can be a great antidepressant especially with people who are overly empathetic and unmotivated
 
I've read that effexor is the best AD for people coming off of opiates.It's said to be the best for treating PAWS. Some people have problems when they first start taking ADs, seeing your also taking oxy it's kind of hard to say if your anxiety is to be expected or not. Using opiates after a few years, they started causing me more anxiety. Tapering off sounds like a good plan. Having the effexor script should help with the pyschological issues after you stop. Quitting with your brother can go either way. It's great to have the support, but can also be tough when one relapses. At least your trying to put the brakes on before getting back up there in the amount you had taken. 600mgs is a wicked dose to wd from.
