Hey I have searched the net and looked around different websites and I find conflicting answers and reports if Effexor reduces the effects of Opiates or enhances them or does absolutely not have ANY interaction at all. Does anyone know if Effexor has any interaction with Opioids? I'm only on 150mg/day but still.. medium dose :\

I believe there is to be no interaction, perhaps a slight dulling, but I don't even believe that to be the case.

I take Tramadol, up to 200mg/day, which is said to be closest to Effexor (it has a SNRI sub-profile) in that effect, and notice no difference when I consume opiates.

I've taken Codeine and DHC on it and it caused no ills and definitely worked but I didn't take it in massive doses, I'm 150mgs of Venflafaxine.

This site seems to suggest some caution :-

But it tends to be on the cautious side which is fair enough even with the disclaimer page, sorry best I can do for you myself

When I was on Effexor, it greatly reduced the euphoria from opiates, but not any other effects, such as sedation and pain relief. Might have something to do with serotonin and the mesolymbic reward pathway, which SNRI's and SSRI's can affect. I also noticed diminished euphoria while on other anti-depressants such as citalopram and escitalopram.

Just in regards to euphoria - I found the Tramadol to really cut down on the "fun bits" of some Ketamine I tried a few days ago. Had sampled from the same bag a week prior to starting my Tramadol pain-maintenance, and it was a much different experience.
