Cocaine Effects of weekend cocaine use on the brain and body

Hi all,

I am perhaps a slightly hypochondriac recreational drug user and over the last few weekends I have been using cocaine more often than usual.

I have little tolerance and have been using at least half a gram a night of coke of quite high purity, mostly on 2 nights in a row. I do not usually combine this with any other drugs but on a couple of nights I did drink some alcohol. This is for the last 4 or 5 weekends, although there is one weekend in there where I didn't do any cocaine.

Specifically I would like to know what changes, if any, this pattern of use is inducing in my brain primarily but also in my body (such as my cardiovascular system for example), and how much of these changes are reversible.

I would really appreciate answers backed up by some sort of scientific study or from someone with some actual biological or pharmacological knowledge. I apologise if similar questions have been asked before but I used the search function and couldn't really find what I was looking for. Also almost all studies I have seen focus on changes induced by heavy cocaine use rather than the occasional use I am interested in.

During the week I eat healthy and exercise fairly regularly for what it's worth, so aside from the drug use I am in fairly good health.

I await any responses with interest. Thanks in advance.

man, using only on weekends, for 4 or 5 weeks in a row? you had it right when you labeled yourself a hypochondriac. you have nothing to worry about.

you might have some dopamine related cravings, but thats about it, and you easily couldve learned that from google.

youre fine, and unless you start using more regularly you have nothing to worry about. however, beware addiction, youre teetering on a dangerous edge

Cocaine weekly would cause virtually no damage, even when combined with a reasonable amount of alchohol. The only problem I would think of is the nasal damage and impurity, but if you're cocaine is as good as you say it is you're fine. Pure cocaine that's crushed fine would yield barely any nasal damage.

And half a gram of cocaine in a night with a few drinks is fine, just don't get carried away. If you use 2 grams of pure cocaine, and start drinking heavily, then you should be concerned.

Thanks for your responses.

I think I am just a little wary of stimulants... coke just feels to me like it should be harmful. Not that I don't enjoy it, obviously. I would still be interested to know just out of curiousity if there were any long term or short term neurological changes going on apart from the obvious ones which can actually be felt (ie; cravings for more), because again all the studies seem to focus on heavy users. That said I do know people who do a lot more cocaine than me and they seem fine, for the most part, and subjectively I feel fine, so I guess there is no reason to worry at the moment. I would not be able to sustain any heavier pattern of use realistically and will likely take a break entirely in the near future in any case.

With a pure product (one not cut with any directly harmful adulterants), such low frequency cocaine usage would cause incredible negligible effects. Start using it every day and at high levels, that's a different story.

I'd say you have nothing to worry about except psychological dependency. Cocaine + Alcohol is more toxic to the liver and heart though.
