effective medications for opioid withdrawal?

Ok i just posted another thread earlier today so sorry if they over lap(im new to this site). Basically ive been on suboxone for a little over a year and i want off. Ive tried in the past with no luck because the withdrawal gets so brutal and last so darn long. I want to see a doctor abiut getting some clonidine or valium or something to help me. The thing is i have a psychiatrist appointment in about three weeks and am going to try to get a script for some kind of benzo. Now is the perfect time for me to quit sub tho bc i have a few weeks off work and nothing to do except hang out with friends and lay around the house so its perfect. Im worried that if i go to see a doctor and tell them im trying to get off sub(i dont have a script for sub) I'll be labeled as a drug addict or drug seeker or something and wont be able to get anything from the psychiatrist or the doctor will just think im an addict and wont give me anything at all and send me on my way. Any ideas on how this works or suggestions about what to do? I REALLY want off the subs but i dont i know if i can do it alone with nothing or no help to get me asleep and just chill me out... If i can get a script for a light dose of benzos i know where i can buy some on the street for cheap. Im also on random drug tests so i cant just go buy benzos on the street i need a script. But if i get a script i could buy all i wanted and just take them until the date in the script says they should be done, right? PLEASE HELP!!

Hello, this is my first post so please be kind. I have had great results in the past using high doses of gabapentin (at least over 1 gram, more depending on the size of your habit and GABA tolerance.) In fact, a high enough dose of gabapentin, or even lyrica (I've heard) seemed to make w/ds a walk I'm the park for me. Another thing I have found extremely helpful is good sized doses of kratom. Obviously benzos would help for sleep/anxiety/more but I consider them just as addictive as opiates, if not more so. I realize gabapentin is a prescribed drug so if you have to much difficulty finding it another suggestion of mine would be to be pretty honest with a doctor and tell him that you're withdrawing and he should prescribe you an opiate detox kit. I was just recently prescribed one and it consisted of lorazepam, clonidine, and some others I can't remember at the moment. Clonidine helped TREMENDOUSLY with aiding my sleep and actually helped a lot with the chills as well. Very useful drug. All in all if accessibility isn't a huge issue, the most helpful things to use, I would say, would be gabapentin or lyrica, then clonidine along with benzos. But be warned, use the benzos very sparingly. Kratom is also of much use but can also be addicting so be careful as to not just swap one addiction for another. Hope this post has helped a bit. Sorry, I just read that you would have difficulty obtaining the drugs I suggested so besides those, I would suggest loperamide in large doses (50mg at least, maybe more depending on size of habit) and maybe for the worst of the days even DXM. I've found that doses of DXM that would normally make one trip have almost completely eliminated most physical w/d symptoms for a good chunk of the day. Be sure to use DXM ONLY products though, if you do decide to use that route. So if you absolutely cannot obtain any of the first suggestions of mine and the w/d is really that bad, I would suggest to (almost) anesthetize yourself for the worst day or three (wouldn't really recommend using dxm too much more than that although it is possible). Also loperamide is very helpful or so I've heard. Again, best of luck.

Also, I've actually found gabapentin and pregabalin to be a lot more effective than benzos during withdrawal believe it or not. They are also a lot more likely to be prescribed than benzos in most cases at least

Thanks man greatly appreciated. Im planning on seeing a dr and trying to get some clonodine. Im just worried about having drug addict or seeker on my med records or something like that. Also would large doses of loperamide show up as an opiate on a drug test since its technically an opiate, even if it doesnt cross the blood brain barrier?

It is a general misconception that loperamide doesn't cross the BBB. However, once it cross's the BBB it is pumped back into the central nervous system (CNS). Loperamide does not share any common metabolites with any other opiates or opioids. Most dipstick/instant cup/immunoassay tests for opiates are based off of morphine as a target compound. Loperamide or metabolites should have no cross reactivity with these types of tests. Other instant cup/dipstick tests are more extensive than others, including detection for other opiates such as Methadone, OxyContin, Hydromorphone, and hydrocodone. A more extensive test in a laboratory would have to be used to detect loperamide.

this is the best advice you're going to get:

- get a script for pregabalin or gabapentin plus a low dose benzodiazepine like 0.5 milligrams of alprazolam. of course you could obtain them through any method.

take the following every day of withdrawal:

300mg pregabalin x 2 daily
0.5 alprazolam x 2 daily

this will almost certainly make you feel comfortable. if you really wanna get knocked out even harded, just add some hydroxyzine or replace the benzodiazepine with it.

I would also try and obtain a quantity of the muscle relaxer carasopridol (brand name is Soma)It works great at knocking you out at high enough doses and generally helps you deal with the withdrawls better.They come in 350mg tablets,just be careful when combining with benzos and other CNS depressants.I've found that 5 of them will have me staggering aoound like a drunk.They even feel kind of like being drunk but different.They used to be passed out like candy but have recently became schedule 4.Still ,a prescription shouldn't be difficult to get.I've found them a big help with opiate withdrawls.Just make sure you don't have to go anywhere or do anything requiring coordination because a dose high enough to be really useful for withdrawls makes you pretty useless for a few hours untill you fall asleep.

Some doctors won't prescribe benzos until they are certain the suboxone is out of your system. Some doctors prescribe them together, but when I was on subs I ended up with a doctor that was completely against taking benzos and subs concurrently or taking benzos for withdrawal. Basically, if you failed your piss test for opiates, then you got another chance but if you failed for benzos you were instantly kicked out. She was on a benzo warpath for some reason.

I know that seems a little off topic but just wanted to make you aware that some doctors won't give you benzos if they know you have been taking subs. I'm not saying you shouldn't be honest with your doc, but a lot of doctors still view addiction as a crime instead of disease like it is and can act like an ass when they don't want to help.

^^^^ I couldn't agree more.A lot of doctors are benzo assholes because some people can't handle them.Sadly,that often ruins it for those of us who legitimately need them.Ditto with pain meds.The medical system generally sucks and is filled with uncaring dick heads with little to no compassion.
