Hi Everyone,

Following on from a PM sent to me regarding the so called decline of ED section, I'm asking you for your suggestions and comments.

Do you see any problems, would you like to see something changed or added?

Maybe you have a problem with the way the threads are modded etc

Speak up, let us know whats bothering you (if anything) and we will see if it can be addressed.

If you address these problems without being offensive then everything is up for discussion.

It seems to me that a lot of people don't read the guidelines, maybe we should make it easier to find, the directory has two links, one on the top of the page and a sticky thread, maybe it would help if we gave the guidelines a sticky thread as well.

It looks like a two part deal to me, the vast majority of the new threads can be answered by the directory, but no one cares to read it. Some more of the regularly repeating topics may be worth discussing in a megathread.

I think this board is experiencing a lot of new inexperienced drug users who have nowhere to go for information, but are in desperate need of it, because of the ridiculous state of MDMA in the world. I have long held the belief that a large number of people who think they take MDMA have just been taking Pipes or some random RC. This is especially prevalent in young people who missed the peek of MDMA some years back. I have found at least 7 people in the last six months who fit this mould in person and have corrected it, much to their magnificent surprise.

The endless misinformation about MDMA compounded by the insane amount of drugs being sold as MDMA that are not MDMA will continue to limit interesting discussions here because peoples experiences will not match their expectations.

Maybe I haven't been around enough lately but....

The only decline I have seen is alot of people ,as of late, who don't know, or don't care what acceptable topics are for threads and the regular users who still contribute to them.

I don't know how yo can get people to read the guidlines and user agreement...I know I never did.

but for the most part, the people who come only to find out what mystery chem they took or a good place to score pills either fall in line with the prupose of the forum or they quitely slip away because they can't find what they are looking for.

In general, the regulars here are rather well behaved and pretty educated about MDMA and willing to help others while improving their knowledge of the subject.

I find ED quite charming in A way. There is a big difference in culture, clearly from the UK to the US, but that doesnt make here any less relevant to people. Obviously, whats going on in the UK ecstacy discussion thread is going to be of more help to me personally, especially in terms of products that appear on the UK market, but by large that does not mean the people over this side do not need help or have a thirst for information, or even just want to chat to other like minded people.

Us Brits can be a little snobby sometimes, especially about MDMA. Not sure why, as it started off being fashionable in certain circles in US cities probally half a decade before we embraced it as our own. Alas i cannot discuss the latest pokeball, as unfortuntley, i havent had the pleausre of trying one, but when im around on here, ive always tried to help people with questions if i feel i can.

I do hope the alleged "decline" has nothing to do with the culture difference between over here and us UK moaners. Yes, there is clearly a very big culture difference between the two, but hey, isnt that what makes life intersting in the first place? If we was all the same, life would be pretty boring IMO.

Sometimes when i read these threads there are some very random questions from what appears to be uneducated people on the subject, but i think its important to rememeber, we all have to start somewhere. I have been taking mdma for over 22 years and i am still constantley learning something new everyday, and feel embarrased to ask what may appear to others as stupid questions, but i do, because thats how we all learn.

Peace

Dee

See...I don't mind answering all the "noob" qustions even though they are in the directory. This is a forum after all, if BL wanted to every noob to go to the directory first before posting they would just remove ED and make it a plain old text page. answering the same old questions can get tedious but it helps build the forum IMO.

The best thing you can do IMO is answer the question and post a link to it in the directory. That way the user gets the info they need as quickly as possible but also is shown that there is alot more info available too them other than the discussion board.

Thats a really good point, often times the noob questions get re-debated without much new information, creating in all likelihood, more confusion. I don't mind the question, just the re-debate without new information.

Or the re-debate with incorrect information.

well the information isnt always incorrect.
more often than that its just out dated

There is already a BIG BOLD BANNER at the top of the page re guidelines :D

I really dont have any problems answering the same question for new users - so many people think that they are the first person ever whos eyes move back and forward quickly, they wouldnt know to search 'eye wiggles' in the directory

This is a great suggestion and something I will start doing from today - I so often give a quick and to the point answer without linking to further threads etc.

Nope the problems had nothing to do with the UK snobbery :D - I know what you mean about the huge differences between the US and the UK culture when it comes to the questions etc. I think its great that we actually have a place where new users can come and ask all their questions (regardless of how random) its the only way that were going to squash some of the rumours.

Yes, but it's not that big compared to the massive lettering for the Directory.
All I'm saying is that it's easy to overlook.

OK - Ill have a word with an Admin and see if we can maybe have the colour/font changed -tbh this section is great compared to many around the site as most users stick to the guidelines.

The main one that is ignored is 'Pill ID's' - which I normally just reply to and move over to the Pill Reports threads. We get the odd stupid thread/reply which are normally made when people high with no real harm/malice intended.

Thanks for your support
Bear

Sorry man, I don't mean to be nit picky >_>

Not at all - sometimes a few small changes to the threads can make a whole lot of difference :). I have already asked to have the colour of the lettering changed to make it more visable - hopefully we should see a change (if an admin gives it the ok).

I also don't mind answering noob questions even if some of them are listed in the directory. I don't see how this a big deal really. I guess I should link to the directory more often though, since I never really do that.

Regarding the difference in US/UK culture, well I don't even know. From my experience, people in the UK are a lot more open about MDMA use. It's normal for regular people to have tried MDMA at some point in their lives. On the other hand, i the US, MDMA use tends to be more restricted to certain geographical areas and/or subcultures. But this difference is evident in many aspects of life. For instance, in Europe EDM is pretty much mainstream among most young people, I would say definitely this is not the case for most of America (excluding the metro areas of NY, LA, SF and Chicago). I don't know what I wanted to say by this, but hey this is the Ecstasy discussion forum. =D

Personally, I think ED is doing just fine. :)

Hey Bearlove, do you think you elaborate on why the author of that PM thinks that ED is declining?

There were several issues mentioned – from my understanding of their concerns the main problems are (for them) is the lack of interesting and engaging threads, too many new users asking stupid questions but also (and in complete contradiction to what was just mentioned) not enough being done by mods/members to actually inform users about MDMA 8)

There are numerous threads on this site – most of which are the quick Q & A’s by new users, we have live chat, cuddle puddle and anyone can make a thread where they wish to discuss an aspect of MDMA. If the discussion still isn’t involved enough then there is a basic drug discussion section and then the advanced drug discussion for those who want to know more.

Honestly though if we can't take the time to answer new users questions then we should just simply shut up shop now.
