I also think that while meth is a very addictive drug, a lot of the people who have problems with drugs are predisposed and if their DOC wasn't available there is a decent liklihood they would of had problems with something else. MDMA does not lend itself to abuse and you really do get a tolerance VERY fast without even using the shit daily.
Of the circles I know the less habitual drug users have kind of disappeared because they don't bother since pills died and they never needed drugs. Most of the rest have always been the type to over do it, and I think whether MDMA was commonly available at this point or not, a LOT of these heavy drug users would of lost the magic at some point and started on with something else.
Though I definately do think that less good pills around lately must drive more people to use meth as well as other drugs like G and LSD. For quite a while it seemed like some of the younger people I know were keen to keep buying pills even though they sucked, but those days are LONG gone. It is hard for me to comment if pills are as prevalent among teenagers as they were when I was a teen (not too long ago) as I do not meet many new people, especially of that age. Among the people I know though, very few if anybody indulges in 'ecstasy' anymore.
