Ecstasy and LSD should be downgraded to Class B, says adviser

Don't expect our masters to listen to logic or science, they have long said thaey would follow an evidence based approach to drug legislation, well the ovewhelming evidence is that prohibition doesn't work, do they change their approach??? of course not. the war on drugs could end, but as it is a war of attrition, like Vietnam or an Iraq, it needs a catalyst like the Tet offensive was in Vietnam to turn the public.
.

Well with mentioning Iraq, there are going to be a load of soldiers returning from said conflict with PTSD; the fact thast MDMA has already been used in research in treating PTSD possibly means that the need for a successful treatment will increase dramatically, fuelled by the prospect of massive legal cases against UK ( & US) government. It's just the tip of the iceberg, but it is a start in getting psychedelics/entactogens accepted as valid medicinal drugs

Also, that's a good point clamjuice!

The most fascinating facet about the recent Democratic takeover in Congress is the hope for medical marijuana legislation. Maybe we stand a chance with a slight majority. In all probability, it will take another decade IMO before we see significant change. But keep hope alive!!

Ha! You think having the Dems in power makes legal marijuana even slightly more possible? You're dreaming. Want to legalize drugs and stop pouring $50B a year into the "war on drugs"? Vote Libertarian.

AMEN to that

Something like 70,000 US veterans of the current Iraq war are on paid disability (for those who aren't from the US, that means you're considered unable to work and get a pension like welfare or social security) due to PTSD.

Well the A, B & C classification is sopposed to refelect their potential for causing harm, so having LSD etc as class A and barbiturates as class B is so utterly wrong that it makes a mockery of the whole classification system. They really need to reconsider the classification of all drugs if they're going to use a system like that

If alcohol, tobacco & caffeine were classed in that way then alcohol & tobacco would be class A and caffeine class C...

Yes the LCA(Legalise Cannabis Alliance) sent me an e-mail to notify me of this. And I think they are finally getting the correct idea. When they know very little about a substance they just slap a class A on it.

It makes me so angry/disappointed that these wonderful substances cannot even be studied properly just because some moron/s believe its as harmful as crack cocaine or heroin

Wow. Because you know, crack cocaine and heroin melt your brain. And ecstasy is just so much safer, because like, you know?

I believe that getting Michael Badnarik to Congress should be the first step there...

...Except that American politics has degenerated into what Max Weber predicted: policy determined by what will benefit those in power the most. Legislation unfortunately seems more inclined to pander to what will seem the most "moral" or "positive" to the public rather than what will actually do right by the people.

Think of it as a parent and child. If the parent only did things that the child said he/she liked, then what would the child turn into?
