Has anyone else noticed how freaking awesome it is to come out of pain? It's almost like a drug itself when pain ends. Even when drugs aren't involved, when the pain ends it's almost a drug in and of itself. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm pulling it out of my ass but somewhere I swear I read that Timothy Leary said something (a quote or something) about how life's greatest pleasure is when pain ends. Those times when one moment you're in terrible pain and the next the pain's ended, sometimes it's more amazing than any pain killer could be? Maybe I just smoked too much oxygen today. But has anyone else experienced the sudden coming out of pain and it feels like one of the greatest pleasures there is?

chronic pain for many years but understand the perspective. if i have a toothache and i yank the tooth the pain may get worse for a minute but the lack of toothache is euphoric. can give other for instances but dont feel its necessary.
also not just physical pain.
if under severe duress, stress or panic when it is over (or stopped) its like getting high to me. like a really enjoyable state. i get we have to "sit with our feelings" but when it gets overwhelming its nice to have a life vest handy.

Definitely an amazing feeling and definitely drug-like in that you suddenly feel completely different compared to when you were in pain or before you took the drug (or both)

Even when the pain isn't noticeably huge the noticeable feeling of relief is something else, as noted by above poster. Low-level pain can become the norm, but when it's suddenly gone its 'phew'. And then you realise all the energy that's actually been spent coping with even low-level pain (if it's been present for some time anyway)

Yeah, absolutely. Well articulated, my friend.
