Eating old mushrooms - how to know when it's worth it

Last June, I bought a half oz of mushrooms and only consumed a quarter over the summer. I kept the other quarter stored in a dark, metal box in their sealed ziploc bags in my dresser. Over a year has passed since I first purchased them and I would like to either ingest the rest or throw them out... but I really don't want them to go to waste. I briefly inspected them for mold and saw none and they look and smell pretty normal. My question is... are they safe to ingest a year later? If they are no longer potent then whatever, at least I gave them a shot.... I just don't want to get gut rot if I can avoid it.

What do you think?

from my own experience i will make a wager that these mushrooms are still very much active. i once experienced a BAD mushroom gas attack near the end of an experience with 1.5 year old mushrooms.

was trying to watch a movie with friends, every two seconds there was LOUD, voluminous farting for about 30 minutes. be wary :)

Mushies can last for quite a while, and it sounds like you stored em pretty well. Go for it.

Usually you don't have to worry about mold as long as the mushrooms were kept dry. I've picked various non-psychoactive mushrooms in the past and the only ones that went mouldy or started to rot were those that were not stored properly and remained wet for a couple of days.

They should be good to go.
