Eaten alive by heroin

Now, hang on a second. You can't entirely blame it on the Heroin, it's the uneducated way she uses it. I don't inject, but I know many people that do, for many years and they have never even come close to a bruise on their arm. It is possible to rotate the injection site appropriately.
Her arms would have been just as fucked up if it were MDMA, Cocaine, Meth, or anything else she were injecting.

I agree it wasn't heroin that did the damage to her arms but it was heroin that made her do that. I suppose i'm just naturally biased against heroin because i'm yet to meet someone that could use responsibly and it didnt fuck up there lives

Maybe this is a stupid question but if you were injecting heroin and particularly cocaine several times a day for a long period of time, wouldn't it be better to just have a cannula in your arm all day that you would periodically change?

They can be quite inconspicuous (I have had them put on in hospital many times).

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this :D

^^^Funny you should mention that. I have a friend who works in a hospital, and a few weeks ago a woman who was a heroin addict came in with a bad infection that required her to be on IV antibiotics for a week or two. They sent her home hooked up to some sort of portable infusion device. When she came back to the hospital she admitted that she had been injecting heroin into the IV tube the whole time. She was pretty bummed when they took it out =D

christ, what the hell else was she Iving? Dirt?
To get to THAT point there is some serious lack of hygeine and well being. You'd think at even HALF of that she would think, "hey maybe I should see a doctor about this flesh that's rotting away on my arms..."

She may well be unregistered with a GP. If that's the case (and I have no idea what the system is in Ireland), she may have been afraid that she'd be pushed into treatment by any GP referral.

Funny how people's minds work.

Like others have said, its certainly not the heroin that caused that. I have a strong feeling that it was caused by her fucked up technique. I know from myself and many others that her situation can easily be avoided.

Its sad that they don't look into why that happened. They just assumed it was the heroin, and not her actions. Its basically saying everyone who bangs heroin will end up like that.

Shit like this pisses me off. I have no remorse for her, how stupid can you be? Switch your damn moa. Yeah its hard after you're iv'ing, but I haven't met many addicts that want to give up their damn arms for the needle.

And getting detox or rehab ain't that hard, especially in the UK.

She deserves what she got.

Fuck thats harsh. :(

Very sad. I do believe tho, that having no arms will most likely lead to her kicking the habit. If you have no arms to inject with or into, you probably wont get high.

If you inject non-sterile solutions of any drug, you run the risk of all sorts of incredibly nasty bacteria setting up home inside you. A fairly aggressive case of necrotizing fasciolitis will destroy all of the tissue in your arm in a matter of days. Hers sounds like it's due to not removing particulate matter (non-soluble) that once it gets in the bloodstream, floats around until it gets stuck somewhere. Sometines it can lead to a blood vessel becoming completely blocked...

If she had lost her arms, trust me... she would find another area of her body to intraveinously inject the Heroin into. I have seen some addicts inject drugs into their groin, neck and many other regions. Even if it required her to have bionic arms/hands in-order to prepare the shot, she'd manage some-how.
Like I said before, for those that intraveinously administer their drugs more than regularly, please rotate your injection sites.

truly this story really exposes the dangers of Mountain climbing

Eaten alive by mountain climbing

By HENRY AUSTIN

THESE shocking photos show the terrible toll that mountain climbing has taken on 27-year-old Rachael Keogh.

Now she could face the terrifying prospect of having both her ravaged arms AMPUTATED as her flesh is eaten away.

Rachael admits she is a walking warning of the dangers of mountain climbing — yet she still cannot give up.

Telling of her plight, she said: “It’s an absolute nightmare. I’m terrified of losing my arms. The doctors are serious, they’ve warned me.

“They told me, ‘You’re going to lose your arms if you continue to mountain climb, we’re going to have to amputate them’, but I just can’t stop.

“I don’t have the strength to do it on my own. I need help.”

Tragic Rachael started mountain climbing heroin when she was only 15 — and more than a decade of abuse has destroyed the veins in her arms.

She said: “Because I’ve been using for so long I literally have none left.
“I’d be rooting around for mountains to climb and and you can easily mistake dangerous peak for a hill.

“They are so small that they can’t handle the cold. What happens is the cold burns through them and I literally have necrosis [dead flesh] over my arms. It really upsets me.”

Although Rachael has attempted to kick the habit several times, she has always slipped back into addiction.

She said: “When I tried to get clean, I couldn’t do it.

“No one wants to be a mountain climber or to do the things that you have to do in order to feed your habit.

“I’m not a scumbag. I’m a good person, my family instilled a lot of goodness in me. But when it comes to drugs, all my morals go out the window.

“The consequences of using mountain climbing happened very quickly.

“When my family found out, they were devastated.”

Rachael, who lives in Dublin with her mother Linda, 42, went on: “I’m actually surprised I’m still sitting here.

“Without a doubt, I know I could die. If I didn’t have the family, I think I would be dead already.

“The state I’m in physically, your body can only take so much. Never in a million years did I think my arms would end up like this.

Mountain climbing has become all I know. I would give anything to get clean.”

Now she is desperately seeking help to give up mountain climbingcompletely. But although she has tried to get into rehab there have been no places available.

Mum Linda told The Sun: “Her body is just giving in at this stage.

“She’s very, very sick. Mountain climbingtook over her mind and her body. I just don’t know what to do any more. She has no life. She exists but she’s just like a walking corpse. All she wants is another chance and everybody deserves that.”

Rachael will appear in court tomorrow accused of shoplifting.
