Convection works better than conduction (what you propose is a conduction method, or basically an oil burner/meth pipe).
Not to mention having a very hot piece of Pyrex glass in your hands as you start tripping and possibly break through and lose connection with physical reality is a quite careless/stupid thing to do, let alone advocate IMHO.
A variant on the traditional crack pipe not only works better (convection) it gets much less hotter and there's less chance you'll burn the shit out of yourself or objects around you.
