quite lovely ad either way but made me think of this even.. what are your opinions on it?

have a lovely day

Part of my job and education are/ were related to sustainable development and environmentalism so I while I may be a little biased I think it is in general a good thing. Raising awareness on these matters is important I think, since we really are fucking things up more than most people think/ know. Then again, I always fear that people see participating in such an event as an excuse to not do anything else.
If we really want to stop climate change, biodiversity loss etc. people (especially in the West) need to change their general lifestyles and consumption.

I had an email from my office, saying that they were going to switch the lights off for an hour this evening. Given that *no one* will be there then apart from a security officer, I'm kind of horrified that the lights are usually switched on Saturday evenings.. especially as my company prides itself on its sustainable credentials. I think a culture change within corporations is desperately needed. :|

When I lived in Norwich I would see so many office blocks that would leave all their lights on at night time & weekends even though there was no staff working.
Such a waste of energy and money lighting a whole office block when no one is there.

Many shops do that too in my city, they light on all night just so people can see what they sell.. COME ON!?!

Haha I had the exact same email and thoughts. In our office we must have 300 computers which are all left on, a token gesture of switching off the lights once a year is a drop in the ocean

Do you think this is a generally western problem? Perhaps the east (and i mean mainly vhina ) could also do a thing or two about climate change ...

It may be a token gesture, but it is a gesture nonetheless. Id kinda prefer if this were to catch on as much as other more commercial recent ideas (like the coca cola santa claus for instance...)

Aye, its a bit of a token effort really? But anything that raises awareness of "consumption" is a good thing in my book.

Water. We pay a fixed rate in Scotland with our council tax. I have a really bad habit brushing my teeth with the tap on full through the whole procedure, its such as waste of water. Same with running the tap for a drink, I let it run for ages. My water waste is something awful, maybe if it was metered I'd be less wasteful.
