Early refills on narcotics

I was wondering if there is a law that states how early you can get your script filled?
My PM Doc says he can write a script early but it may not get filled early, I have had my oxycontin 80 mg and 20 mg oxycodone IR filled 7 days early, is this wrong? Is it up to the pharmacy? Is there a common rule? Have any other Bluelight members had theirs filled early?

I have searched the net but cannot find a definite answer in accordance with written law/rules.

There is no federal law that states you cannot fill it early other than it must be dispensed for a legitimate medical reason and not be abused. States may vary but most have similar wordings. Most pharmacists will give a little leeway, may 1 to 3 days, but it up to their discretion.

It is a shame that it is that way, putting the fear in care givers which pains the ones that go buy the rules. I think maybe the reason my scripts get filled days early is that my insurance "VIVA" allows it and my pharmacist and I have been together for 12 years and it is not an every month issue, this is actually the second time that I can remember that I have refilled it 5 to 7 days early but other than that I have no clue why others are so strict.

Relationship really is everything. Pharmacists really do want to help, I swear. Youve been on time for most of those twelve years. Maybe you had an appointment a few days early with your doctor. Most Rphs wont think twice. Now, corporate overlords at the chains may force them to do shit they dont want, but to be frank, it fucks up patient care and customer service.

Im happy to hear positive stories like this. Makes me think my profession isnt as much down the tubes as I sometimes think.

they let me fill my subs 3 days early this month...i couldnt believe it...i felt like i was pulling off the biggest bank heist ever when i was signing my name on the lil screen before they hand you the goods...sweeeet

I live in Chicago Ive refilled narcotics early many of times. I think here its really your doctors descresion.

I have found that if your doctor writes a script early, the biggest obstacle is your insurance company. Mine allows for a refill after 75% (80% is common too) of the script time has passed. So, technically I could refill a 30 day script 7 days early and I used to do this on occasion 8-10 years ago with my OxyContin 80mg pills. Like another said, it was with the same pharmacy I used every month and that probably help a bunch.

I really think some pharmacists like to throw their weight around when it comes to narc scripts. They can and will refuse to fill if they feel it's too soon. Like they're the doc, not the other way around. My feeling is that if I'm holding a legit script from a legit doc, then their job is to fill it. Sounds simple to me but these days, things are anything but....

I agree and it is like anybody else that has some authority and they're actually too immature to handle it. I also agree with;

I believe that whoever is filling the script has no understanding of pain or do not care if we are in pain. They can go by the amount of pain meds being filled, if they are refilling a script that the person needs to take 4 80mgs of oxy a day that person is in some pain. I am fortunate that I have some nice and understanding pharmacists.
