Stumbled upon this absolutely bizarre factoid in this substack post recently; Raymond Sackler was present in the room during the first presentation on LSD in North America in 1950, how insane is that! Further, all three brothers (Raymond, Mortimer, and Arthur) conducted early research on LSD in the late 50's and early 60s during their time as research psychiatrists. Below are a selection of some of their publications:
Effects of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide on the Total Leukocytes and Eosinophils of the Female Rat
Effect of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD-25) on Growth Metabolism and the Resistance of Male Rats to Histamine Stress
Effects of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide on Urinary 17-Ketosteroid and 17-OH Corticosteroid Levels of Female Rats
None of these papers are particularly interesting, just exploring niche physiological responses to LSD. Still very, very, very crazy to envision the brothers Sackler fiddling around with some Sandoz LSD.
