so. whats everybodys Christmas cooking plans?

Im going to invite some people over so ill:

- roast me some pork
- cheeeeeesecake
- hummus (just cuz ive got ton of chickpeas left)
- meatballs marinade (im looking for a good marinade sauce if you ve got tips eh)

Not a clue :D That does sound p good though.

Just had gammon with home made potato wedges, peas, and yorkshire pudding. God, I love gammon so much.

got started on cooking again.

went all creative with some chicken today, prepped it with no recipe, but made something up from
onions, garlic marmelade, a bell pepper nad a pickled chili, orange and lime juice (didnt have enough of either), thyme and other spices. came out rather tasty on top of simple white rice...

hummus came out juuust nice

Aw bless you <3 sound like you've been making a massive effort to sort your kitchen out. How's it going, are you feeling any better?

thanks, it does feel a lot better not to have a health hazard as a kitchen.

Ive stolen Sam's idea, every spare plate, bowl, pan etc has been cleaned and put away into storage. With only 1 plate and 1 bowl there will never be any unnaprochable washing up mountains again. Things are now a million times better on that front. I'd have been embarrassed to let anyone see my kitchen before, so im very glad that ive managed to get back on top of one very basic but very important aspect of my life.

Higgidy spinach, feta and toasted pine nut pie, and chips, with HP sauce, pretty tasty.

Was out for a curry last night - Tandor Prawns, Some thick tomato chicken curry thing, yellow lentil Daal, rice, garlic naan. Going shopping in a bit to buy what I need to cook a Christmas dinner - no doubt a photo will appear.

that does look nice, as did Knocks meal. As Knock said though your own food looks way better than the takeaway you got and even the resteraunt meal above. Of course its nice sometimes to have someone else do the work, so all you have to do is sit and wait for it to be served.

The other night i had a sachet of batchellors cheese and broccoli pasta, in a seperate pan i fried up bacon bits till they were on the right side of very well cooked and crispy, then added crushed and chopped garlic and a brocoli head chopped down into tiny peaces. Then stirred the contents of the frying pan into the pasta. It transforms a bland and boring meal into something really very tasty and the broccoli and garlic too is probably quite healthy, even if it is briefly fried in bacon fat. It looks good too, i find that quite important, if it looks nice and colourfull and tasty it makes it even more appetising.

lol, yeah i did, i am keeping on top of things as i go now.

There is still that bag in the shed from before my dad came to visit. That can wait. I can actually get to it now, ive cleared out nearly all of the wood in my shed and burnt it on the fire, or brought it indoors to thoroughly dry out for a few more days, so that the fire takes off like a fucking rocket, the heat it creates is fucking awesome. Im loving all this free fuel, and its a nice little pre bed ritual to make a fire half an hour before i go to bed, and i can go to sleep watching the embers dying down if i want to. Its really nice. All a bit of a novelty and all that. And saving loads of money.

Got through it all quicker than i expected. I should have / i will start rationing it a bit more, to make it last longer. It'll all be gone within a week or 2 otherwise. My neigbours tree is overhanging into my garden, she's sawn off and pruned her half, but i havent done my half, to balance the tree out and make it symetrical again. Theres quite a bit of fuel to be had from that too, but it'll take a while to dry out, and i need a dry day to do it.

The food was nice (nothing I couldn't cook myself [well apart from the tadoor bit]) but like you say its nice to have somebody else do the work (and dishes :D). Your meal sounds really nice and I completely agree if it looks nice it makes it even more appealing. (You could have topped yours with some cheese and whacked it under the grill :D).

somehow my meals end up tasting great but looking rather poor. oh well, the best things in life require a leap of faith and if thats all im asking of my guests than so be it

WTF is this Higgidy you keep having Knock ? And what surface is the pie on :? oven top, worktop, the floor 8o Its hard to make out what it is (the surface)

Kingme, the most important thing is how the meals taste, but presentation does make a difference, i was stuck at that stage for a long time, but appearance can be easily and fairly cheaply improved by doing very simple things like adding a few torn basil leaves or grated cheese on top, anything that makes it more colourful (with different contrasting colours) basically if its too yellow looking add fresh tomatoes or red or green peppers, if its too red, add fresh basil or grated cheese on top etc. Bearlove has it down to a fine art.

They look allright Dan, truly home cooked style. Ok you wouldnt win any michelin points for presentation, but do you care ? Dunno how it could be improved, that steak and veg meal could have had a few small boiled potatoes or something with it, would have balanced it out it a bit more somehow.

looks good dan :), like mdb says, home cooked all the way.
however, dont put ketchup on anything! :P not right away anyway, i always think ketchup is there to hide a taste :P

Spicy Italian sausage tortelloni grande with a tomato and roquito chilli sauce.

Garnished with (or is it seasoned?)... covered in parmesan and black pepper.

Washed down with ginger ale, gbl and freshly squeezed lime juice.

<3

They look nice coltdan - I love salady (is that a word) stuff. I don't eat red meat but those are some hefty looking steaks :0.

I went out and had Iranian food tonight

Mixed salad (Humus, Mutable (aubergine), Fatoosh, Tabouli, chicken marinated in yogurt and chicken kofta - with sesame breads.
