I have finally donned my apron and got into the kitchen - currently making a bastardized version of 'Moussaka' . Potato, green peppers, aubergine, spicy chicken mince mixture, tomatoes, in layers. I may make a topping with yogurt/cheese/pepper - top layer is potato so may just stick it under the grill until it goes brown ?

^ Only tried moussaka fairly recently. And even then only Co-Op's version. Very fond of it so I am. Such an unusual flavour with all that cinnamon. Must have a bash at making my own sometime.

Recently munched lamb biryani wiv a coupla veg samosas on the side. Was yum. I cheated by using a jar of Patak's biryani cos it was in the reduced section. Ain't a "proper" biryani in my book but tastes rather good all the same.

...as usual the skin around my already-eaten finger nails...mmmmm...anytime of day or night, fucking sweet mate =D

Mmm... one of my all-time fave snacks <3

When I was a kid my parents forced me to use that anti-nail-biting nail polish that tastes rancid cos I was such a finger-nibbler. They also made me wear gloves 24/7 for a while. Tied on tightly so I couldn't take them off. But the desire for finger-flesh was too strong so I just ended up putting up with the 'orrible nail polish stuff and ate through the fingertips of gloves so I could get at it. The beatings I've had for the sake of a bit of finger-nibbing... and I still do it all the time to this day. Sometimes wonder if I'd've just grown out of it if left to my own devices. Kinda doubt it though cos they are so very moreish =D

^Shambles we don't like cinnamon / or cloves or spices like that - I also skip the Bechamal sauce and go for a grated cheese in yoghurt mix (Hence the bastardized tag). Was still tasty :D

made enough for four - so just enough for us two :D

Ooh! That looks bloody lovely does that, Bear <3

Sounds (and looks) like I'd enjoy your version of moussaka but I must admit I was quite surprised at how much I liked the cinammony version. Took me a wee while to decide whether I liked it or it was just a bit weird but eventually decided that it was a bit weird but I liked it all the same :D

I agree on the bechemel though. Kinda bland. Would have to involve cheese for me if I were to make my own.

I had curry from a jar today too. Would be nice to eat from-scratch meals every day, but you know, life and that :)

I couldn't be arsed to make a Bechamel - couple tubs of low fat yoghurt, grate some cheese into it, add some spices and grill it :D. Nowhere near as rich of a taste but zero hassle and impossible to screw up. My potato bake was very simple spice wise - cumin, paprika, chili!

Burger and onion rings for lunch :)

Made the rolls myself and baked them in a steam oven, local steak mince and bacon from the butchers, and topped with a chilli cheese called "afterburner" from the cheese shop.

Burger doesn't look anything special but I'm quite pleased with the onion rings, I usually either get the batter either too thick or thin.

Best bit is I've got a couple of rolls and bacon left for a bacon sarnie for breakfast tomorrow :)

Invites myself for lunch :D - looks great. Making your own bread = respect :D

Actually it's kinda a half-lie. I have a bread maker, so I just throw in the flour, yeast, salt, sugar and a bit of fat and let it do all the kneading and resting. I just shape the rolls and prove them for a bit before baking them.

I probably *could* get the same results doing it manually, so it's not really cheating. Just means I can go to the shops whilst the bread dough sorts itself out :)

Not a lie at all - you still made it :D - I have tried too many times to make my own bread but always seem to fuck it up. BF wanted to buy bread maker but I know its going to be a use once and shove at the back of a cupboard (Nilson
stylee )

Shopped your buns though :D

On the contrary, I haven't bought a single bread item since I got it. I make pizza bases and flatbreads in it too. Nothing better than the freshest of fresh bread a couple of times a week, and for about 1/3rd of the price of shop bought loaves. It does go stale quicker than supermarket bread, but that's because it's not chock full of preservatives I guess, which can only be a good thing. I live on my own so on a loaf's second day I just slice the rest of it and freeze it, just take out a slice at a time as needed for the toaster.

Edit: I have this one.

I am hungry and this thread isn't helping. Fed up of Thai food at the moment. Need to discover some new dishes there must be hundreds I've not tried yet but it's so easy to end up eating the same stuff all the time.

Had a club sandwich for lunch then a horrible pasty with a cheese filled hotdog covered in sugar (!). Revolting. Thai's like some weird shit.

I've got a spinach pastry in the fridge which are OK but I'd prefer something else.

Polished off prawn crackers from last nights Chinese takeaway after cold noodles for brunch :D

Got a spezzatino di manzo in the slow cooker, it smells wonderful. Aka Italian beef stew. Will cool then box this up in portions for the freezer, then do the same for some sort of curry later. Homemade ready meals ftw.

Crispy pork with Thai basil and chilli with rice.

Was more chewy and fatty than crispy but that melt in your mouth sort of fat at least rather than just being stringy and horrible.

Pretty decent actually.
