To be fair. If there is some sort of a god (to be clear, I don't think there is) then you can't really blame the dude for the bible, seeing as it clearly is just a load of shite made up by humans. At least if religious people would acknowledge this I'd give them a bit more respect.
Edit - Can we not get a religion thread? It's an interesting discussion after all. Has as much validity as a paedo thread does.
Edit again - In fact, we could incorporate the two. I bet with a swift google i could find some paedos in the bible.

Being a good person is in the 10 Commandments? Really? Unless you're a woman apparently cos they're still property along with the slaves. The 10 Commandments are useless as moral guidelines. Don't rob, don't kill. Fair enough. Bit basic - even by the standards of the time - but won't argue. The rest are essentially: Worship ME worms!!! and stuff. And the 10 Catholic Commandments ain't the same as the standard model anyway. Y'all removed the "craven images" one cos it'd mess up the decor
Seconded. Promise I'll play nice with the Believers. Could do with a clean-up in aisle three the way it's going though...
Also, I don't blame a deity for the instruction manual as such... but you'd think he'd maybe stick his oar in and clean up some of the more heinous misrepresentations if possible though really. Not like it's caused more misery than any other book in history or owt 8)

Aye, is there not only about 2 commandments that make sense? The rest are just repeats of the other ones in different words or "I AM GOD, WORSHIP THE FUCK RIGHT OOT ME!!!"

Not just to chat about Theology.. Loads of people, myself included are into Buddhism, zen and Taoism... I also love Native American religion. Maybe it could have a probation to see if it doesn't all become too hateful lol.

Snake isn't generally given a name. It's definitely an old, olde, ye olde pre-xtian god though. Probably a composite of several snake-gods of the time. The idea that it is actually the true and good god goes way back too. As old as the Bible itself more or less. I'd say I'd dig up some stuff on it for ya but I doubt I'd get around to it if brutally honest. Looks like we move in similar circles re: online religious stuffs though so you'll no doubt come across it soon enough.
I don't believe any of this stuff but am deeply fascinated by it all and like to think I know a thing or two so always interesting to debate with believers. No need to be a believer to get into Biblical (or other religious) stuff. It's a massive part of Western culture so deserves a certain amount of knowlegde if not exactly respect. If you look into some of the history of it it really does get very interesting. Ask the average Xtian how many gods there are and you get one. Read the Bible and there are literally dozens. And several of them got merged into one to form "Yahweh". He's a composite deity formed from many pre-existing gods of the region. It spells it out in the Bible itself if you actually read it. The snake was just one that didn't make the cut so got demonised. Fascinating stuff.

Yah and Weh are actually seperate gods. Or not depending on your beliefs. Is historical fact though. Can't remember how many gods went into making Yahweh but is loads. Is why there are so many names for god in the Bible - they were literally all seperate gods initially. Jews started out polytheistic then gradually merged their gods with those of the various tribes around them and - poof - here comes "monotheism". Kinda wished they never bothered sometimes but is interesting stuff from an historical and sociological standpoint.
