The new-ish Dredd film

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

Director: Pete Travis
Writers: John Wagner (characters), Carlos Ezquerra (characters), 1 more credit »
Stars: Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey | See full cast and crew »

Pete Travis is director of Judge Dredd then.:D

Not an actual recommendation of sorts, but a film I'll like to see when it comes out (later this year or the next I finx).
Narcopolis

Quotettee quotey quote said:
In the near future, Frank Grieves is a new breed of police officer working in a city where all recreational drugs are legal. When he is taken off a case involving an unidentified corpse, he discovers that legalization has come at a price.
Not to be confuzzled with the book by Jeet Thayil which I hope to purchase and read at some point.
Fuck's sake, need to get mi sen a debit card sorted out soon so that I can make a donation here and grab some literature (and other stuffs).

Its a theme and a concept i'm really interested in atm actually eg the price for total freedom. I mean you could give people freedom to do what they like, at the risk of repeating, eg free will.. but that would cause chaos if there is no Love.. which entails responsibility and protection.. Not policing in an enforced kind of way and not something that expects or demands anything in return for its Gift.

I'm fairly sure that they're going to paint the universe of this Narcopolis red and seedy and "the whole city's gone to shit because of this legalisation" and all that fucking Bee-Bop.
But yeah, freedom to do whatever one could want would inevitably go teets up unless, as you say Miss Epiphany, there were love and compassion and all-round good vibes for one another and the assurance that all would do the right thing.
Tis a shame the world's a shitface ay? :\
Jeeez.... I'm getting depressed because of a film that hasn't even been released yet! =D The notion of that has cheered me up actually ;)

Awww you 3 have reminded me how much I love that film, and how it turned me toward the comical work of Aubrey Plaza :)
Which also reminds me that I should have continued to keep up with Parks and Recreation, I'll just have to catch up instead. (Not sure how much dialogue and what not she gets in it though as I thought she should while going through the first series.

Not watched a proper serious deep film for ages, I'd had The Reader with Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes recorded for ages but never felt in the mood to watch it until tonight.

She won an oscar for best actress for her performance and it won loads of other awards. All deseverdly so. For anyone who hasnt seen it, its hard to say anything without giving the whole thing away, its best to watch it knowing fuck all about it.

It's an unsettling film, i think it set out to be so. It would have failed if it didnt.

spoiler

NSFW:
i find myself extremely frustrated that i do not understand the moral cowardice of "Michael". Why the hell did he not speak up and say what he should have said.:?:sus::\

Closing Statement

The Reader is a powerful, provocative film experience I highly recommend.

Caligula 8o Fate chose me to govern swine, in my old age I am become a swineherd (must have modded EADD) come on, off with your clothes ... the people of ROME!8o

OK this has fuck all to do with the Camus play. But it's the most cultured piece of filth I've ever seen so is sort of noteworthy in that I wouldn't expect any less of the EADDers who recommended it, albeit unwittingly.

And it comes as no surprise that Shambles posted about it back in 2010 =D

Also a bit shocked to find the young lady playing Caligula's fourth wife on this extravagant 70s hardcore porn set is Dame Helen Mirren. Less surprised my Malcolm McDowell's Caligula. More surprised by John Gielgud's Nerva! 8o

IIRC correctly my grandad had it on vhs when i was a young teen, i used to sneak round to their house to watch it when they were out at work. I still rememeber the scene of the woman with the white robes being disroped and then ravaged up against a tree. That made quite an impression on my young mind.

Saw Filth last night. Aside from the ''I know that place!'' chat, it was a baaad film.

ANIMAL KINGDOM

Its on film 4 tonight, i expect many here have allready seen it, but for anyone who hasnt its simply unmissable considering our shared interests on here. Such a hard, powerfull, real, gritty, terrifying film. The characters are superb. Your life will not be complete until youve seen this. You'll all know what ive been rattling on about when Air Supplys All Out Of Love comes out of the families TV during a scene in the film. Honestly I'll eat my fuckin monitor if anyone doesnt get gripped by this one of the most compelling and really frightening portrayals of some extremely dark subject matter. I could go on, but i wont.

How is it possible you've only just seen Caligula for the first time? Makes no sense!

Try Pasolini's 120 Days of Sodom next if you havent seen that one. Caligula is better but they're both nuts

Very good indeed . If weird hard hitting movies are your thing. I suggest...

Kill List and the other one from the same director... Down Terrace. As fuked up as your likely to get. A bit too much for some.

Makes Animal Kingdom seem like Toy Story.

spolier

NSFW:
it wasnt weird, it was a brilliantly effective portiyal of a psyocopath, possibly the best most chilling movie villian since Hannibal Lector in Silence of The Lambs. The suspense created around the introduction of the charcater Pope was brilliantly done, only gradually did it become apparent just how evil he was

Kill List was a good watch. I disagree massively with your toy story comparison. "Are you having a laugh ?"

I dont think ive seen down terrace, was that the directors next film after kill list ?

Killl list was kinda drawing from those supernatural and weird cult films of the 70s towards the end, like tales of the unexpected and all that tosh, it was spooky and nasty first time round, but sick and sad on 2nd viweing. Im not sure if id better post too much on here today, i think im gonna be a right grumpy bastard.

What I meant to say way Amimal Farm compared to Kill List was like a PG13. That's just me though. Down Terrace makes both look like films made for 10 year olds... proper disturbing.

kill list will def go down as one of my favourite films.

Now I will have to get hold of Down Terrace. Thanks womble.

Mate watch Down Terrace... Its fuking mental. Really. Watch it right this minute!

I had a bit of a hard time the whole day after watching it.
