£40k and a car sounds very nice and all but...could you really work for Aldi? Having to deal with incompetent morons all day - and that's just the staff - whilst working for some scumbag supermarket?

Employment is a fine balance between job enjoyment, pay and future potential..

I don't think i'd do the Aldi job for £50k :D

I'd only do it for 2 years, I'd skip it all together if I made some decent contacts at uni that had family working in the senior civil service.

My local Aldi has become really upmarket now, as in all the middleclass centre lefties have started shopping there because of the credit crunch.

Why the fuck would you want to work in the Civil Service?

My dream since I first watched Yes, Minister. Its what got me into politics and seeing that the ministers actually have very little power, I didn't want to become an MP.

Not as a f*****g architect you won't though :! :X :! :\

Don't you also have the longest degree course? Its either level with vets or equal.

My uncle and aunt are architects but moved to America during the economic slow down in the 90's.. Business was booming until recently. There's normally a shortage of architects in the US

You ever thought about working in the US? After the recession has passed

I may be very wrong here, but i'm not sure I'd suggest that "Yes, Minister" be used as an accurate portrayal of life in the Civil Service. Don't you kids have careers advisors anymore who can point you in the right direction? ;)

The degree's the same as any other but then there's either a Diploma or MSc to do, meaning a minimum of 5 years study, a minimum of two year's practical experience and then a final professional exam - so, same as a vet', 7 years minimum :\

Seeing what the US Immigration Service are currently putting my eldest daughter through, no thank you :|

No, this'll do until I work out what I want to do when I grow up ;) 8) :\

Heh, it may not be exact.. but the Mandarins do have a pretty decent job. Also, all the MPs I've spoken too say it is pretty much the same lol

Shock horror! A Bluelighter believes an MP!!!!

I've had non stop lectures since I've been back about getting a job, if I dont have a job I need to sign on, stop sitting about the house all day doing nothing, you've got it easy etc etc. Only been back 4 bloody days and nothing but grief.

I'll sort things out in my own time thank you very much!! My laptops fucked and I can't access my email for some reason on this laptop was hoping the colleges I emailed had messaged me back about the courses I wanted to do.

I presuming you've just rolled out of bed? ;)

Have I fuck I was up at 10am and have been out and about at the shops etc buying stuff to cook dinner for everyone in the house tonight as I have done every night since I've been back.

The regular cashier staff at Aldi start on £7.50 an hour rising to £8.55, if you're good after 6 months you can be promoted to supervisor for £9 an hour rising to £11

I should probably apply

The Kid said:
^ 60 mile commute aint too bad?
