Aye well unlike you, we've experienced it before. Your time will come. Probably some time after your Dad has paid for you to piss off around the world

as a contractor i don't get subsidised share options, if that's what you mean. but they're a publically traded company on the stock exchange so there's nothing stopping me (or anyone else) buying shares now.eDDe9 said:felix, do you also get the option to buy into the company after working there for a few years?
tell me about it. like most of the population (i'm guessing) i'm still in denial about the whole thing. if we (and by 'we' i mean you scientists!) don't get things sorted out soon we are headed for disaster.duck_racer said:Hopefully by this time we'll have better harness of renewable energy supplies and nuclear fusion will have come online.
oh god, 3 hours travel. been there, did that for about 8 months. fucking nightmare!cherrycolouredfunk said:Heehee the IT company I got a job with are having IT problems so they've asked if I can start on Thursday instead! Suits me fine as it was rather short notice so i've more time to do some work clothes shopping and less days I have to do 3 hours a day travel to work!
oh i'm sorry. do you find long sentences difficult to follow? why don't you do yourself and the rest of us a favour and stay the fuck out of the thread if you've got nothing useful to contribute?workshy dundonian tink! said:ZzZzZzZ!
Could you not have summed that up into a couple of sentences?
the rest of us spend a third of our lives at work, so it is kind of important that you enjoy your work if at all possible. your time will come, and if you don't think it will, why the hell did you spend all those years at uni? maybe you should just go and work at Micky Ds?TheSpade said:You would sad case. Never seen so many people get a hardon about working before.![]()

TheSpade said:No not difficult but usually if you're going to write a 3,000 word essay it helps if it's semi interesting.
No need to get upset now.![]()
Most people prefer to keep that moderately quiet. I certainly do.eDDe9 said:What wage will you be on felix?
a) my essay wasn't written for your benefit, it was an answer to a question.TheSpade said:No not difficult but usually if you're going to write a 3,000 word essay it helps if it's semi interesting.

I'm glad you enjoy your work, you've told us quite a few times already. In fact I think you've professed your love for working more times than I have for 2CB. And you just love to have a go at me for that so you can just STFU and take the abuse. :D
All that time at uni? Two years that is all. It's been great fun but doesn't mean I need to have wet dreams over the thought of getting a job related to my course.

aye, everyone can go in the public areas. believe it or not, everywhere will be kept pretty clean, even the changing rooms. you have to wear plastic overshoes when you come inside, so the floors are always clean, and everyone has to wear gloves all the time they're outside, so your hands don't even get dirty. (not to mention boiler suit, hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, and on my new platform a mini BA set. 8)) there's a lot of peer pressure to keep the place clean, and there are full time cleaners as well.duck_racer said:Felix - The photos of the Rig you posted... Are the public areas for everyone's use? Surely after a few weeks your average oily worker would have destroyed all those beautiful pleather sofa's and pine-ette tables?!
Looks good though. Don't think I could handle the isolation (or no woman) but fair play if it's what you enjoy! Might be picking your brains about the oil industry in future weeks..

Awwww... nice one!felix said:oi oi
well the interview was a bit of an anti-climax really! it seemed almost like a formality. so... i'm just waiting for the letter through the door, and that'll be that. he asked me when i could start, and i said any time, but as long as i get a certain weekend off for a *cough* family reunion thing (a.k.a. Rockness) i would be happy. :D
so he looked at his calendar and said that would be no problem. i don't want to jump the gun, but if it all goes through i would be starting at their office for three days next week for inductions & training with my first flight on thursday. home two weeks after that, and to rockness the day after!
it looks like a huge and exciting project and i will be involved from day 1. this is actually like a dream job for me. i am fucking over the moon here.
2 weeks on / 2 weeks off - contract lasts for at least 2 years.
*watches out for the postie*
PLUS.... if you fuck it up, you get to make a big explosion.felix said:i'm glad you've decided on sparkying - that's the best decision for several reasons. good money, very respected, not too much heavy lifting or getting your hands dirty, and being a sparky offshore is pretty much a pinnacle of sparky-dom. you're talking about MASSIVE voltages & currents to keep things going there. huge gas driven jet engine turbines providing power in the megawatts (enough to power a small city), with exhausts the size of houses that'll take your eyebrows off if you get too close.![]()
