^ watch out that's not a scam, seriously.

deathrow - can your dad not get you a start somewhere? that's what it's all about.

i've just applied for another offshore job, which is supposed to be 2 weeks on/ 3 weeks off.

and i found out the Romania job is a non-starter, it's not really my field of expertise. hey ho. :)

Yeah I was thinking that - especially since he said "Ask for Richard when you phone back"

So my phone rings at 9.15am this morning. I groggily answer (should have let it go to answer phone) and it's a guy I contacted yesterday about a Job. He wanted to run though a telephone interview there and then! Fuck that. I asked him if he could call back later at 11.30 (after I'd had my essential morning coffee) and we went thought the interview then.

'Full Description:
Based on the Quayside you would be working within the banking and surveying industries on behalf of this companys client, you will provide a panel management service and become part of a structured team, sharing the daily tasks and responsibilities required of the campaign whilst managing your individual workload and the requirements/responsibilities associated.'

We'll see.

^ I hope I never have to do a phone interview. :\

Phoned that place and they knew I was unemployed so I doubt they're trying to sell me something (the "unemployed" user base is on average not very rich:p ) took my details and said I'd be contacted within the next week or two.

Fingers crossed.

Chances are you will have to do a telephone interview at some point. In my opinion they're better than face-to-face interviews, however, 9 times out of 10 a face-to-face interview follows a telephone interview.

I don't think he's ever been on an oil rig in his puff and he doesn't even work for a company anymore just him and a couple of guys so I don't think he really knows anyone that would be able to do much for me.

My mum has a friend who's son is only 20 and has already been offshore somewhere off Africa. As usual I only got the bare minimums from her but apparantly he did some sort of course at college and then managed to land a job. She's going to speak to them to find out exactly how he got into it. Pure luck or knowing somebody I guess.

Have you ever worked offshore before felix? Also, would you not prefer 2/2 rather than 2/3. I thought you didn't get paid for your time off? And more than two weeks is just greedy!

I'm not sure if you do get paid for your time off or not but the money you make for the 2 weeks of work is enough to last you a month easily based on what my mates are making.

it doesn't matter if he's been offshore or not! the important thing is getting your foot in the door. i'm sure he knows someone who knows someone else etc. it would not kill you to ask.

aye, i worked offshore for about 6 months. who wouldn't prefer 2 on/3 off? if the money is right then you're laughing. what you take home is what's important, not whether you get paid for your time off or not.

p.s. i <3 this thread :)

I reckon the job will have enough to keep me going for a while. It's not call centre so thats a start already! Aye, the Quayside would be a nice place to work. No need for public transport! Perfect!

^ exactly. it's not rocket science is it? ;)

you just negotiate things so it doesn't matter a fuck about being paid for your time off.

Got a reply and apparantly he did a BTEC in Engineering and once he finished that he managed to get a job with Fugro GeoConsulting. I've just had a look on their website and they've got a position for:

Engineering Assistants:
We are currently looking for engineering assistants to assist our engineers and geologists in performing offshore field investigations, including doing soil descriptions, basic soils testing and data processing, and also helping in all aspects of reporting, both in the field and office, including data entry, data processing and the creation of plates for reports. No specific qualifications are required to apply, but science "A" levels and computer literacy would both be an asset.

Although I've got A levels they aren't in science but I'll apply anyway.
