Though Borat is from Kazakhastan. ;)
i wondered if some twat would point that out. some of the rural areas are very much like kazakhstan. in fact, i have a feeling borat's village was actually filmed there???

i doubt if there's a minimum term, it would just be month to month. the details are still a bit sketchy. it would be interesting to know how much dosh they're paying though.

That would get boring pretty quickly I reckon Spade. There are castles and shitty houses in Scotland.

If there's no minimum term then do it for a month to see what it's like.

Deathrow that's not all there is to do / see it was just a couple examples. ;)

If anyone's interested, the jobs sites and job sections of newspapers (here anyway) keep advertising for HGV drivers and bus drivers to go and work in Canada.

I think if you were accepted then going to Canada with a gauranteed job would be braw. Work the job until you find something a bit better. Money isn't too bad either, about $20 an hour which is about £11 I think after you complete your training.

Grrrrrrrr! I might aswell give up my job search until I move in 3 weeks. Places aint interested in me as they think that where I live is Royston Vasey and miles away (its only 30 mins on the bus!!!) and I can't get there to do early shift starts. To be honest it would be a struggle but I'm moving sooon! It's fucking frustrating!

Might aswell sit in the sun in the garden and at least attempt to some job research today.

Rant over!

i have no idea my dear boy, but i'll summon some of these young rapscallions to my cabin for interviews.

if i actually get a job, that is. ;)

Cheers dude.

That'll be my little project for tomorrow. I need to register with all the agencies too. I'm probably wasting my time as I haven't even done the safety courses however, apparantly, the job centre will pay for me to take the courses if I can convince them I'm being serious about working offshore.

felix/cletus see all those entry level jobs on rigs, how do you land one?

I wouldn't know, seeing as I am management! ;) :p :D

The way I started was with a service engineering company & gained offshore experience through doing that. I took a very different route from most, so it's hard to say, or give actual advice how to get a proper start, but I'll have a bash anyway.

Some people start with the drilling side as a "Roustabout", but can be a relatively low paying shitty & extremely dangerous job with a whole load of abuse thrown in from the older, more experienced arseholes. A general dogsbody that doesn't get more entry level than this. Physically & mentally draining, but can be a hell of an experience. However, stick with it & you will eventually progress to a better job on the drilling floor with more pay & loads of travel worldwide.
Drilling companies can be found here

Catering stewards have a decent number on a lot of platforms, but you are mainly the janitors of the platform. This includes; laundry, dishwashing, bed making, mopping floors & helping the chefs in the kitchen etc. Some places you are accepted as part of the family, but other places you are almost second class citizens. I've met loads of folk who start on an ad-hoc basis & can be within the pool of floaters who cover holidays & absences, but this can sometimes lead to full time employment on the one platform. Have quick look here for a bit more info.

Cheers for the info Cletus (and felix)

I've been looking through the agencies in Aberdeen and every job they have posted lists qualifications or experience as essential. I reckon I'm wasting my time hoping to walk into a job with no experience or anything.

I'm going to spend today looking at courses at college that I can do which would give me a relevant qualification. Unfortunately I reckon it would involve moving because I don't think any of the colleges in Edinburgh offer that sort of thing. I'll have to see.

It's about time you stopped being mummy's little soldier anyway isn't it and moved away? :p
