There is a certain differentiation between a troll, who deliberately posts with intent of causing trouble (Rockstar, mrSmokesblunts) and OTW, who just has particularly bad judgement and lack of repentence skills.

thankyou, i am honoured, i can actually see the good in what hes trying to do, just that you need to be highly skilled and understand who you are talking to thoroughly before you can risk the tough love approach. Unforunately he isnt and doesnt. He made me feel crushed and small when i was down/out/fucked/struggling. Running circles and being slippery around someone who isnt well isnt big or clever. That was my experience. That didnt help. He may have meant well, but the blunderbus approach doesnt work in reality, maybe it works in the army or on schools, but we are not soldiers or school pupils.

My CBT worker is all about challenging faulty thinking. He is fuckin trained and skilled in how to that constructively. People without the necessary skills and training (or even basic understanding and compassion) should not be meddling in such senstive and delicate areas.

Some people need the gentle 'there there everything is going to be ok' whereas others need to be told that if they carry on the way they are going then this is what may happen to you.

And some people, whatever you say will make no difference whatsoever. That may have a good result or a bad result. The idea that people are incapable of seeing their own problems is a bit patronising. Most people are capable, I think. Perhaps when it's too late to have an easy exit, but they see them alright. Repeating it at them is more something that benefits those who want to chip in their tuppenceworth, feel they've made a difference.

Yeah but Brimz has been hammering them for 20 years or so. He's a reliable survivor. I'm not even entertaining his inclusion for my prestigious award.
