Pretty sure last time I saw figures there were areas of Glasgow where the male life expectancy was early 60s. I think that's as bad as it gets here. And in the UK. And Europe :D and the Western World. But Glasgow is not representative of Scotland as a whole, in all sorts of ways ;) I think outside Glasgow our expectancies are similar to UK average, in Edinburgh slightly above UK average.

10 year difference between poor and rich, of course.

Though you are correct that the word "assimilate" is predominately used to describe absorption/blending/comprehension, it can also be used to compare similarities. To help you remember this for the future, think of it as "Assimilate". I'm sure Sammy G will agree with all this.

While i'm still writing i'd like to apologise to Albion. Felt my "Moderator most keen to snip" award came across a bit condescending. No offence meant. We need a good snipper time to time in this forum especially now BHM has returned

Awards? You fucking corporate sell outs. I'm a free internet surfer, rolling north from the Antarctic swell every 50 years. How do you judge art? Or taste? Or a pair of perky tits? One doesn't post for awards, especially ones that are mere circle jerks of the lonely and pathetic. You want a hard childhood. Try walking out to find your parents naked in the backyard with all their friends. Try being driven home in the back seat of an XJ12 while Neil Diamond blasts from the Kenwood by your father after three or four bottles of red, running over the cats eyes in the middle of the road so he drives in a straight line. How about catching high balls in the dark until all you want to do is go in and do your homework, instead being yelled not until you catch 20 in a row, whilst being belittled that if you can catch a cricket ball there is no way in hell you should drop a rugby ball. But you have your childhoods of no parental expectations or discipline and wear it like it was so hardcore you now have a legitimate reason for your dope habits.

Very, very unusual. You would likely never see this usage in print as it would cause huge confusion to the reader - this definition is basically unusable and you would never see it in print.
