EADD Gardening Club: Ploughing FUBAR's infertile Fields

Need to get my garden sorted. Just a concrete yard and outhouse at the mo but want a lawn and tables and shit. Then a herb garden. And an adult sized paddling pool.

Ooo, sounds like a fun project! Tis the wrong time of year for laying a lawn really, but you can still get started on the other stuff.. Am jealous, would love to have a garden to design.

Is it? I know sweet FA about gardening, I just know what I want in it. Least can do other stuff. Just a wee project to keep myself sane over summer. When do lawns generally get laid?

I do love a good laying of turf. :D Spring's a good time as there's usually enough rain for it to establish before weather heats up.. Or autumn, though Spring tends to be preferred. Same goes for most plantings, really, but turf is quite particular about wanting a good watering.

You can always get your layout doodled and start on the edges, which are far more exciting than lawns anyway. ;)

Yeah layout is a plan, gonna take some time to get the concrete up and no doubt really annoy the neighbours but want it done. Why not :D All my plants die so I was just thinkin lawn, pool, rabbit. Poppies maybe but fucking rabbit would probably eat them.

The wild poppies round here are looking somewhere near ready to start flowering and podding now, most of the plants seem to be the same size or even bigger than they were when they reached that stage last time.

Wondering whether to thin them out more, in the hope that the ones that are left will not have to compete so much for nutrients from the soil and w/e else it is that they need to grow decent sized pods. Maybe its too late now anyway, and thinning them out at this stage is pointless as they have allready plundered the soil. Really dunno, will probably compromise and experiment, thin out certain patches and see whether that does allow those plants than remain to grow bigger pods than the ones that escaped the final thinning out.

The local ornamental wild poppies are starting to flower. ;)

Getting quite excited now, they have reached a much better height this year and are far more robust looking all round, they look like they are meant to look, they just flopped over under the weight of the flowers and pods in previous years. :|

I think the new bag of compost for sowing the seeds in must have made all the difference. All i need now is a month of sunshine. I know that is too much to hope for, Id settle for the weather at least not constantly pissing down over the next month. When they are all flowering i may post a pic, as it will probably be a fine sight.

Just been out in the backgarden doing some planting now the rain's stopped.

It used to look lush as fuck, but since Nerdboy got hold of it, turned it 'wild' then abandoned it, it's now turned into a fucking snail farm and looks like a year long abanbdoned old Netto car park.

*sob*

Ive seen the Titchmarsh doing those make over shows and i want in! Im thinking of making up some bullshit sob story, applying, but, as I have very few exhibition tendencies, telling him to save some dosh and leave the film crew behind. thereby itll be a win-win for both of us.

i recon he might go for it

I tied up the tomatoes yesterday as they we're getting a bit big for their supports, and put some squash plants in the ground, hopefully they don't get mildew this year.

Right now there is a very nice man (a friend of our neighbour's) strimming our car park and possibly the shared back garden. %)

I hear a gentleman cutting grass also. I was gonna talk about mammy cutting the grass but I fear the lewd judes about my mammy.

Or maybe he's hovering his car......

I have somehow managed to grow sunflowers! I am sooooooo excited but I need to get sticks to hold them up! And the forget me nots are taking on that beautiful shade of blue.

^
Aww fab choice %)

Also give them more soil and some plant food. In our thereabouts geographic parts, these flowering beauties need a little extra <3

Thank you for the advice! This is my first time trying to plant from seeds myself. I am now thrilled and shall be planting more! I feel like a momma to these little babies.

Have you considered growing something edible too?

Salad Leaves 'Speedy Mix'
Arugula, Rucola, Garden Cress, Japanese Greens, Oriental Mustard

Quick win hit right now if you get it in another trough / pot or whatever <3

I miss my "proper" private garden :\.... I know, I know..(see the Don :|) The one I have now is a communal paved terrace and then a wild bloody woodland that goes down to a river. Lets not mention the car park. It is beautiful garden but quite a "job". Though our fantastic neighbour now to be know as FF is into helping us sorting it out - our other neighbour a Korean lady JJ is keen, but language / culture is a barrier.

Well it's like they say, if you can't walk the talk you're a lying bastard. I start small...tis scary this communal gardening malarkey but humbling 8)

I would actually kill for a fall blown massive garden! Or jus a woodland.

I always wanna try planting different things then I always think to myself I'll look up what to plant when. But when I see the seeds I can just get so excited by what flowers I could have and what pretty colours they'll be then I pay no heed. Well I pay money hohohohohoho.

I am on a rambler tonight D:

Good work on the gardening G

I've heard several people say that you need to stake/bamboo the sunflowers for support but I have never did this myself and like Borat have always had Great Success.

Thank you! It makes me feel super happy. I think I'll have to plant something again soon :3

I'll definitely try out some of my own veggies at some point.
