Well, they don't have to, they can suggest a film on a different thread! Point is, with elections, there is every possibility that some people will NEVER get their films seen.

But whatever. Make up some and rules and go with it, I'll provided a detailed analysis with examples of why the rules are idiotic in a few weeks time.

I think the chances of not getting your film seen under your method are far higher knock. What are the benefits of one person deciding? Who chooses the order of the people? How does that incorporate new members easily and quickly? How is that inclusive?

I only limited it to 5 because I thought we're just starting out, once it picks up popularity I see no reason there couldn't just be a time window to get your noms in. I think it would only take the persistence of nominating something people haven't seen for a month before everyone saw it.

One thing about the polling.

IMO it would be better if the results were kept hidden until the end.
People have a tendency to follow the leader & it's also gonna be hard not to favour certain posters suggestions.

Is there any way we can remove all bias from the process?

Without wishing to toot my own horn, I am one of the most disliked people in EADD and my film came 2nd, so I don't know how necessary it is to remove bias? I think the films that got zero votes did so because people have seen them, mostly.

The most important thing is that we get to watch and chat about interesting films though, yes? So let's use that as the measuring stick of whether this is working, rather than if it's fair or not.

Good idea about hidden results. That should happen next time.

I don't think there is going to be a way to remove all bias unless a mod takes charge of the whole thing and anyone that wants to nominate a film sends it to the mod anonymously and then the mod makes the poll when 5 or 10 films have been sent to him/her or when the time limit is up. Would need a mod to be in charge of it all then, Albion seems to be in the club, maybe he would be up for that.

I just don't want it to end up being a EADD favouritism contest where someone that isn't favoured as much doesn't get the chance to choose a film. I don't see anything wrong with how it is now with some film nominations being made, it's pretty much the same as Marmz' idea as it is likely that the film we are wanting to suggest is going to be the one we choose if we won the vote, why not just keep it as is with Username and film title in the nomination.
It's nothing like my idea. Knock obviously understands what I meant

If necessary we can have 2 threads, it's no big deal. two separate concepts

Yeah, any mods who wants even more work please let us know. Don't all jump in at once ;)

[edit] I am generally happy with how it has panned out. I don't even care if people want to nominate 2 or 3 films in any given week. We've ended up with a film that is way out there, we all got to take part in choosing it which should theoretically mean at least 8 people are going to watch it, and nobody has been left out.

I think the way it is just now is fine. Some people may never get their films seen, they'll just need to suggest better films. It's quick & simple now, each week get the nominations in (I don't think it needs to be limited to 5) & folk vote for the want they want to see.
fundamentally flawed concept. since 'better', as we've already established with Goon, is subjective. same as rating systems. my original intent was to be able to give a poster the opportunity to dispell the rating theory and come up with some suggestions that no one would really think of, or immediately would say nah to ... but will be surprised by when they watch em ... or films that get an imdb 5, but are real gems

Don't throw your toys out of the pram......again 8) Are you seriously going to go an start your own thread because the idea has evolved or changed slightly so it's not 100% yours anymore but more of a group thing, it should be something that we all are happy with. I think you are just a bit annoyed that it's not exactly like you thought, just give it a chance like it is for a few weeks before you go and start your "other thread"

It's hardly two separate concepts, we are going to be discussing a film that we would all have seen over the last week each time. Its a FILM CLUB, like book clubs, but with films, we watch a film then talk about it.

@ mugz erm, if you read the thread and my initial posts as well as reread my responses, that's not the case. There is no beef, only the one your trying to generate. hasn't worked though. oh well

there's no toy throwing. and yes they are fundamentally different. but again there can be more than one of them .. it's not like we're short on bandwidth now is it? tis just a few more 1's n 0's
