I understood this post, its just that most of them are half formed sentences/collections of words that convey nothing other than the fact you can spout off random words in sequence.

Ok well I'm laughing at how deluded people can be, not gonna be posting in this thread any more as arrogance really pisses me off.

I live by the fact that I don't really understand the world, no one does. And anyone with a strong enough logical argument that I cannot refute deserves to be listened to, and potentially can change my entire outlook on life, if it makes sense.

You on the other hand just say "Na I'm right, Its up to god and we don't understand him so lets just listen to certain parts of a badly translated book from 2000 years ago".

I hate arrogance too. Thanks for pulling me up on it! Most of it is just drama though you know!
( most ;))

There are things in the bible I dont understand.. But I know from experience that God has a way of unfolding things to bring us to an understanding..

Even if something looks absurd, illogical or contradictory I like to wait on Him these days. When Hes near everything makes sense.

There's a definition for that you know. Its used in FICTION.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief

"if a writer could infuse a "human interest and a semblance of truth" into a fantastic tale, the reader would suspend judgment concerning the implausibility of the narrative"

"This might be used to refer to the willingness of the audience to overlook the limitations of a medium, so that these do not interfere with the acceptance of those premises."

Cant see how a friend thinking me delusional would mean me realising anything of the sort hx.

Not the same category MrM ones the creator the other a beautiful creation.. Unicorns are actually in the bible you know.. Its a disputed word but nevertheless..Job 39. 9-12

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Job+39:9-12&version=KJV

9Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

10Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

11Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

12Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

Its also argued that the word could be rhino though ( uni horn ) Prefer to think its unicorn myself :)

The word in question was רְאֵם, (re'em - a mythical wild, untameable beast), and the association with the Unicorn (monokeros) of Greek folklore only came about with the Septuagint; purely because the ancient Greek translators wanted to substitute the רְאֵם of Hebrew myths with something that would be instantly recognisable to the Greek populace of the time.

The Latin Vulgate followed suit, and that's the only reason 'unicorns' are mentioned in the Bible.

reems a good word :)

This is my fav psalm. I read somewhere that this is one of the earliest literary examples of courtly love before Tristan and Isolde.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+45&version=NIVUK

Psalm 45

For the director of music. To the tune of Lilies. Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song.1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skilful writer.

2You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God has blessed you for ever.

3 Gird your sword upon your side, O mighty one; clothe yourself with splendour and majesty.

4 In your majesty ride forth victoriously on behalf of truth, humility and righteousness; let your right hand display awesome deeds.

5 Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king's enemies; let the nations fall beneath your feet.

6 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a sceptre of justice will be the sceptre of your kingdom.

7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.

8 All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad.

9 Daughters of kings are among your honoured women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir.

10Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father's house.

11 The king is enthralled by your beauty; honour him, for he is your lord.

12 The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift, men of wealth will seek your favour.

13All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold.

14 In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her and are brought to you.

15 They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king.

16Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land.

17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever

Straight up fact & more than valid explanation... completely bodyswerved with gibberish yet again.

YPDH - Do you even realise how offensive you are being? Not to me personally, but you're saying stuff that I wouldn't even consider saying (even if I believed it - which I don't - I wouldn't say it in anywhere near as offensive a manner as you have been & I don't think anyone would say that I'm afraid to offend people).

Read some of the things you've said. I honestly cannot believe you are getting away with it as lightly as you are (as I said before, people are clearly holding back & just thinking "don't harass the crazy person"). If I was to rock up in a different thread, say just MSN Gibberings for example, & post some of the things you have in this thread I would be attacked from all sides with heavy abuse (deservedly).

Yellow you do realise that all these quotes are translations of translations of things that were in many cases not even written down at the time of their happening.

Giving such significance to individual passages and words of what you call the bible is just plain ridiculous ....go and learn Hebrew and give us all a rest.

Then come back and tell us all what you make of the actual scripture, not the cooked up selection of poorly translated half baked tripe that passes for a book of religion in this country.....and yes I have read it several times.

Can't this be moved to Philosophy and Spirituality where it belongs so we can all go back to taking the piss out of each other and talking about how many drugs we should or shouldn't be doing.

I hear chinups really keen to have it over there, she has cleared a free space and everything..truth;)

Oi in spite of what you think of that Lady George you shouldnt be cussing about women like that!

You said it was OK for women to be raped. In fact, you said that they should have to marry their rapist. Much worse than "cussing".

Can we all just take a moment to have a laugh at/be outraged by* this...?

*delete as applicable (I'm laughing)

Laugh? Outrage? I near enough applauded that!

No different from Scientologists having to put a disclaimer on their "E-Meters" which basically says "Despite what we tell you, this thing doesn't really do anything". (For some reason, likely boredom, I spent most of today reading about Scientology when I should have been working).

Before this thread dies the death it now so thoroughly deserves, I have a question about that whole free will biznizz that's bugged me since I fell off the ark...

So us stoopid folks chose knowledge/free will/lack of slavery to summat ineffable and shit and had to wear fig leaves to cover our intellect ever since. Fair enough. I blame the talking snake and women in general. But seeing as god is all omnistuff and knew we would, at what point were we free to choose?

I've just asked the fellow mods about closing this, as it's just silly, become a place where some rather nasty things have been said about people's orientation (among other things) and serves little purpose anymore that I can see...
If any purpose, infact.

--- Edit ---

Though I will wait for a chance of a serious response to Shammy's Q.
