i'm essentially asking, why not fuck the mortal life part altogether, with its tests which for the life of me seem designed only to separate God from his supposedly beloved children because He will send them to hell if they fail, and just send us all perfectly formed to heaven? we'd still have our free will in heaven right? why should he create an earth so we can suffer a shitload and become spiritually fulfilled, when he could just create us fulfilled at the gates of heaven in the first place. he could even concoct memories of lives we never lead if he wants us to understand about tribulation.

i'm not talking about 'the problem of suffering' as in why there is suffering on earth. i'm asking what function life on earth has other than ensuring some souls spend eternity in hellfire.

life seems like a cruel joke.

no. i think the entire point of my post is no. i would not like to choose between heaven and hell because if they are actually as described, you'd have to be insane to want to go to hell, and once insane, you don't really have a free choice. if god knows each individuals choice before they make it, why doesn't he just put them where they want to be without making them suffer this shite mortal existence?

sorry. i am very depressed. i don't believe in God but nonetheless i get angry with Him when i am depressed. i would honestly prefer not to have lived one second of this life, and go straight to heaven, without being involved in the 'choice', than to have to live my entire life then go to hell cos i didn't accept jesus christ as my saviour. i honestly believe that this isn't even a real choice, and am starting to think that putting it like that is pretty underhand.
 
Don't thank me! I'm not in any way trying to support Christianity here, just pointing out that the nature of the 'New Covenant' and its supposed distance from the old is a matter of much debate and for themost part relies on some very tenuous interpretations of a few passages in the New Testament.

YPDH - Do we have to do the whole 'homosexuality is an abomination' thing...? Do we really have to start retorting with all the other things the OT says you can't do...?

So tempted to point some gay friends towards this thread, although amid the carnage I fear poor MrSB might fail God's tolerance test...

And no bumsex in heaven? Count me out...

Yellow, you've expressed some pretty sickening opinions in this thread. If you had actually come to those opinions on your own, I might just start up with the torrent of personal abuse type post.

All I can say is that, if holding those egregious opinions is the price you're paying for your sense of 'devine' comfort, it's really not helping you to be a better person.

And TVS. Lol i had a mate Teresa.. lost his keys while swimming in Thames.. V silly to put them down the front of his
itsy bitsy yellow ( funnily enough) bikini.

Thats not to say he didnt struggle when he came to church dressed as a bird.. he did.. but He was part of the body nevertheless.
