Cats or Dogs?

Cats just because I've had my cat since I was about 6 and she loves me. I like dogs but I wouldn't have one, my mum had one and I got so fed up with it trying to play with me the whole time. Cats get the idea of personal space :P

A cat with the confidence and character of a dog is a very precious and special thing.

But I couldn't have an outdoor cat - every time you open the door you're worried they'll get knocked down. No cat really has any road sense, it's just pot luck whether they make it or not.

Indeed. This is what my Spook is like :)

I'm lucky; Montoya Mansions is part of a Victorian terrace, on a side road. The gates of the alleyways leading from back to front, situated between houses numbered 4n-2 and 4n, are kept shut most of the time, only opened on rubbish or recycling days or when a delivery is beig made; so all the cats in my street and the one parallel to it, whose back gardens back onto the back gardens of my street, are confined to the back gardens.

(Or are they? I must confess to having no idea how far Spook, or any of the Neighbourhood Moggies, actually go when they wander off .....)

I watched this program a little while ago called 'The Secret Life of Cats' or something like that where they attached cameras/tracking things to all the cats in a village and made a map of where they went in a week. Almost all of the cats stuck to the same route when they went out and barely travelled any kind of significant distance at all. They also completely avoided getting in the path of other cats because apparently they don't actually like being together which is interesting.

Random but that's just what your post reminded me of :P

What makes you think I don't know?

According to Wikipedia (because I demand rigour), the definition is:

"Stockholm syndrome, or capture-bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending and identifying with them."

Pretty much sums cat ownership up if you ask me.

You have some extremely misguided views about the world then. I've never heard of a cat bursting through the door pumping a few 9s in the air and telling no one to move a muscle.

One night I saw many cats... many, many cats. Dogs just would not have been anywhere near as kewl nor intriguing. Pack animals do packish things. Cats do not. Pack behaviour is an ugly thing... but is both damnably intriguing and kewler than even the most quizzically arched eyebrow could ever come close to suggesting when taken on and mastered by creatures considerably cattier than dogs have any right nor desire to be.

I agree and accept this is a particularly personal take on the eternal dog vs cat conundrum... but aren't they all really. I put it to y'all that if you too had come across many cats - many, many cats - all a-herding of themselves and acting for all the world like they're re-enacting an obscure Twilight Zone episode, I put it to you, ye and thee that you would find that a more remarkable thing than to come across an unusually large number of concurrently present dogs.

Therefore, cats.

Questions like these work best if you take it as read vasty death and decimations will befall the losing side. Precisely why this would happen is of lesser importance than the tacit belief that it will happen all the same so you'd best save your fave or be lumbered with lesser man's less best friend forever 'n' ever 'n' ever - argh! men!
