The Bitcoin botnet thing has happened before, quite a large games company secretly installed it onto users PC who were playing an RPG game, it turned out to be a rogue employee. Ill find the link.

A company accused of turning its customers in to an unaware Bitcoin mining army has settled with New Jersey's attorney and will pay a settlement of $1 million.

Online video game company E-Sports Entertainment has been accused of infecting thousands of computers belonging to customers in order to illegally mine Bitcoins.

E-Sports was established in 2006 and charges subscribers $6.95 per month for its game subscription service. Malware was injected within user computers through software necessary to play games through the subscription service. Once downloaded and installed, the digital currency was mined without user consent.

Court documents state that malicious code was installed within the software by two employees, co-founder Eric Thunberg and engineer Sean Hunczak. In a press release, U.S. lawmakers said that thousands of computers were infected when users signed up for its anti-cheat online games service.

lol like I dont get why you wouldnt just go all in on a GPU farm somewhere cold instead of risking your already comfortably paying job just to steal some processing power out of a bunch of teenagers.

either way someone is gonna start accepting alt coins for a drug marketplace, its already happened but on such a limited scale it didnt really affect anything. I just wish I knew which coin its going to be for. Developers really are the key cog in this whole shit. Without sites to take these coins, none of this happens. nobody invests money in a coin with no where to spend it, unless they have inside information about future developments.

btc-e took a huge stash of Novocoins (NVC) in order to put it on their site a while ago, sounds like some backdoor business to me

and its funny because its the same type of deals that go down with real businesses on the real stock markets, and that was the whole "point" of btc to begin with, to circumvent that type of behavior

To be fair BTC-E provably destroyed those coins eventually after much backlash by sending them to a non existant address IIRC. Or was that the developer who pre-mined and also made MinCoin and MCXnow, can't remember exactly.

I never heard of anything concrete so I couldn't really tell you but you think they'd throw away free money? why else would NVC even be on the site

im refreshing btc-e like a mofo right now mendo its getting ridiculous

this is some bullshit it went from 888 to 911 back to 895 in 3 page refreshes or about 1 min altogether

im just gonna hang onto this litecoin that was in the account already and wait for it to go up but ltc seems to be staying at 32 without much deviation

Looks like I was relieved of mine at the best time (at least from my perspective) then. Got cash for mine couple days back and noticed the exchange was down a hundred-odd quid within a couple hours of it all going through. Great for me (obviously) but a bit of a pisser for the person who paid cashmoney for it. Am kinda hoping they go up again actually cos feel a bit of a dick to have been quite so jammy in cashing out at pretty much the moment prices dropped. (Sold to an actual person not an anonymous website or the like.)

This is possibly why The City hasn't been beating down a path to my door to employ me yet. Amongst a number of other reasons, admittedly. Pretty sure that's my lil speculative career peaked 'n' passed now but was fun whilst it lasted. Many thanks to the persons before and after me in the life of that lil BC blighter - you'll be getting further thanks whenever I get to turn up the heating a notch, or remember that I am at no risk of having phone/intranetz/leccy/the like cut off for many months, between the two of you I've gone from incredibly precarious finances to no really overwhelming money worries for the forseeable. And it's gonna be soooooooooooooo nice to have a few more quids each fortnight from having gotten ahead of meself on some of the bills.

Blimey I am in ramblish mood tonight. Just popped in to update really: despite my great techy trepidations even I managed to cash out with the help of one of our very own EADD peeps. Was actually incredibly easy but never would've done it without a lil light prodding and turned out to be very timely prodding. Thanks to any and all who have offered advice and opinions here and in private and I'll leave Bigger Boys to talk about grown-up stuffs now.

Could backfire but I think it will rise again. Regardless of markets going down they will return, and the whole china thing isn't that just the banks saying they don't accept them? The chinese are still free to trade them as commodities? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I could end up losing a good few hundred for the sake of it going back up to 800quid a coin which I was happy to sell for just the other week. Meh.

8 months ago you could make at least 1.5 ltc a day at 44kh/s (not a lot) using nothing but ScryptMinerGui and I know that for a fact because that's what a 2500k would hash it and I seent it. I was like "oh well thats pretty cool...."

thats what happens when you get into it for the wrong reasons, just wind up blowing it on the same shit you would have blown real money on

but I can either be salty about it or just appreciate the fact that I literally did NOTHING to obtain it. tapped a few keys, copied and pasted a bit, called some people cunts online, all of it in good fun haha

Was never a question of waiting for the right time to sell or owt for me. Just so happened that I was gifted a BC a few months back and just saw how much the price had risen. It was always gonna be 100% profit for me so was never gonna turn me nose up at anything, but I'm more than happy with what I got for it. Wasn't as high as price has been and wasn't as low as it is now, but it was enough to make a significant difference in my lil world. That's several months' total income all at once for me. More money than I've seen since I stopped selling crack (when I had plenty money but not a penny of it was mine to spend :!). If the price tripled tonight I'd still be more than happy with wot I got. No point thinking about what couldashouldawoulda happened. Far too close to actual capitalism for me is that :D

Hope the price does go up though cos would be nice to know others got to profit from my profit. Good luck, Mr Dream :)

Hehe. Was never gonna be homeless but was gonna be bastard cold and lacking in basic necessities (yes, drugs most definitely count as necessities). Am really not a cashmoney kinda chap - I do wish people would find better things to get excited about - but it is nice to not have to worry 'bout pennies as well as to care nary a toss 'bout 'em too.

I deposited today and I saw the conversion chat go from £730 to £650 in a matter of minutes, was quite strange. Fast enough that I was short on my order by like 0.001, but I found some random coins I had left over in another wallet that I had completely forgot about, so was a nice bonus.
 
I think all the investors are cashing in for xmas. Wish I joined em.... Now im just playing the waiting game... For them to appreciate again

Bitcoins price drop is due to every vendor now requiring FE because of what happened at the other place, I bet they are all withdrawing multiple times a day and then selling on asap. Less coins in an escrow, more coins in circulation, supply outweighs demand and the price drops.
It may be a time for cheap coin but id expect value to rise again. It may take a few weeks, it may be back up by monday who the hell knows!
I know what i have in a variety of coins has decreased in value by 30% but im sure there will be a boom again soon and maybe i can get it into fiat before the next dip.
