E-cigarette health risks could potentially outweigh the risks of smoking regular cigarettes. The levels of nicotine in e-cigarettes can kill a child, its carcinogens can cause cancer in adults, and the unknown chemicals added to the nicotine-laced liquid solution are kept hidden from the consumer. Because of the e-cigarette health risks, “the French government has already vowed to extend existing legislation controlling the sale and consumption of tobacco to cover e-cigarettes,” reported EuroNews on Aug. 27, 2013.

The e-cigarette health risk warning has been issued after a French study discovered that e-cigarettes are not as harmless and without health risks as many e-cigarette smokers are led to believe.

“The vapours can contain almost the same amounts of the carcinogenic compound formaldehyde as in a conventional cigarette.”

The French study about e-cigarette health risks is nothing new. On December 7, 2010, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit already upheld a lower court ruling and decided that electronic cigarettes should be regulated as tobacco products.

If you open the device and drink all the fluid, yeah.

(I'm not making a joke; the article literally says e-cigs are more dangerous because someone could drink all the nicotine and die)

The vapours can contain almost the same amounts of the carcinogenic compound formaldehyde as in a conventional cigarette.

They can? Is formaldehyde an ingredient in e-cig solution?

What a weird article. Where's the study?

Jordan Bork, who owns an e-cigarette store in New York dismissed the findings of the report, claiming the method of testing was not "realistic".

"Their "new method" of testing, that results in their flawed results, comes from them preforming non-realistic tests on the e-liquid of e-cigarettes such as heating it well over 1700 degrees (F)," Bork told The Local.

Formaldehyde and other gnarly combustion products are not an ingredient in e-cigarette liquids, they are supposedly byproducts of heating the glycerin or propylene glycol to a high temperature. See this post for more.

Time for a DITM Mega E-Cigs thread?

they are supposedly byproducts of heating the glycerin or propylene glycol to a high temperature.

So is glass I'm pretty sure when you make PG hot enough. But considering Propylene Glycol has been around for decades and used medically for medications for people with lung conditions I fail to see how it can be particularly harmful.

They also don't mention any of the brands of e-liquid that were dangerous.

inhaling hot air/ vapours a few times in succession will likely cause a decrease in lung capacity temporarily,
Also it is recommended that these devices be handled with care, their fluids should come in contact with skin at all.

Children should definitely be kept away from these devices, they are NOT a toy, and they are probably more potent than regular cigarettes, I dont care if anyone disagrees with me mentioning this, that cannabis vaporizers when used correctly are more potent, unless its a cheap shitty one. So yeah i think E-Cigs are more potent

What? No. . .

Right, so perhaps we should place e-cigs under more stringent regulation, to ensure that they do not have too high of vaporization temperatures.

E cigs are very worthy of replacement therapy...

It is completely irresponsible to call them more dangerous...

It is not wrong to administer nicotine without burning it...

That is the only dangerous part of it....

We need to evaluate the dangers we already know...
