I went through a lot of different setups--started with the blu (which is basically a smaller version of an 808 battery), then moved up to a slightly larger version of the 808 but the battery life was still poor, then I transitioned to the EgoT 400mah (a non variable voltage 510 battery similar in size to a sharpie) and then to the Ego C twist 1100mah (variable volt battery--it's run time for an average vaper is about a half to a full day), I'm now using the Provari which uses removable rechargeable batteries which are 1100mAh but you can switch them out throughout the day as they die. I generally go through one 1100mAh battery charge/day.

As for tanks I started with the Ce4s oddly called the stardust clearomizers (the disposable ones) which worked well with the Ego T because it ran at 3.0 volts and didn't really burn out the wicks or clog that fast due to the low voltage, though vapor production was less. I then moved onto the replaceable head Ce4s and the Vivi Novas which were still top coil but they clogged easily and didn't wick thick juices fast enough so it gave a burnt taste. I now like the bottom coil tanks such as the Protank (my main tank) but I also like the EVODs, T3s/T4. Bottom coils let you set the voltage just right so you get a lot of vapor production and wicks instantly because it is a bottom coil as opposed to top, and since it wicks from the bottom it has less of a chance of burning so you get good flavor.

With an 1100mAh battery and a 2.4ml tank (such as the EVOD or Protank) you can get a full days worth of battery life and depending on your juice usage you only have to refill the tank a few times per day.

I've tried NJoy and Blu disposables and they only lasted me about 3-4 hours. NJoy Bold had a hell of a throat hit and gave me a decent enough nicotine high, but their claim of one NJOY equaling a pack and a half of analogs is laughable. Maybe that's why they call it BOLD, because you would have to be bold to make that statement then expect someone to be a repeat customer. It's a mighty expensive purchase for just a few hours of vape and to mislead someone who is trying to quit smoking is a poor marketing decision in my opinion.

With that being said, and as disappointing as my first experiences with these disposables were, the idea of vaping appealed to me enough to start researching online. I started watching YouTube vids and quickly found that there is massive selection of mods and vaping devices along with a plethora of accessories that I had to learn about. It was a bit more confusing and overwhelming than I had initially thought. On the flip side of that coin, all of these high-tech devices made available for us to ponder over had an instant and legitimate cool factor for me.

After realizing that I wanted to switch over to vaping instead of buying and smoking analogs, I hurriedly took the lazy way out, went to Sams Club, and bought one of the Blu starter kits along with 3 packs each of all 6 carto flavors that Blu has made available. My plan is to make this hold me over until I can figure out all of this foreign vaping language, then decide which mod will be a suitable choice without having to waste a lot of money through trial and error. I've watched tons of YouTube vids online, and also subscribed to a couple channels (GrimmGreen is one of my favs) to try and absorb as much knowledge as possible, but I am still in the dark and undecided.

With the Blu kit, I've managed to totally stop smoking my menthols for a little over a month now. It comes with the worlds smallest batteries I think, and they only last about an hour or less before you have to swap them out. The pre-filled cartos loose flavor in about 20 puffs and are half way decent during this time period, but then you have to become accustomed to a vape flavor that I will describe as puppy breath with hints of burnt cotton.

This may be off topic, but Stardust.hero, it would be great if you could point me in a direction in a good mod for a beginner. Nobody that I know personally has made the switch to vaping. It would be great to get some sound advice, as you seem to have a good bit of experience and knowledge about the vape world. All of my co-workers are women that smoke like chimneys, and the temptation to go outside, flirt, and join them for a smoke is strong, and come to think of it, what started me back smoking again in the first place.

I'm gonna need something small enough to carry to work and vape all day with, but powerful enough to give me the right vapor/throat hit combo. If I do need to charge it, so be it, because I'm inside the same building all day with plenty of down time to charge if I need to but it would also be nice to have that option not to. Out of the videos of seen so far I really like the Innokin VV 3.0. It has the design, size, technology, and the coolness factor that I'm looking for, but then again, I have never used it. I do like the idea of dripping at home, but at work I would probably just vape the same flavor all day. Any help or advice that you have would be greatly appreciated more than you know. I'm totally overwhelmed and lost so far. What would you recommend?

I think the innokin vv 3.0 would be a pretty poor introduction into the world of e-cig mods. The problem being it only supports 14500 litium ions with 700mah. So about 4-5 hours of push button use. Maybe even 3 hours if you're cranking the voltage.
There are much smaller devices that can beat out that one. Smaller, cheaper, 2x's the battery charge capacity and still variable voltage.
Sure the innokin 3.0 willlast longer than the Blus. But I think Innokin has some better products out there than that particular device. Blu cig was where I started and it helped me cut back to 4 cigs per day until the blu-cig finally broke on me after a month or so. Stardust & I started going on the hunt for e-cigs and did a lot of testing/trial and erroring with them until we found the ones that actually got us off of cigarettes for good. I was smoking 13 years and by the end of my smoking career was reaching 2 packs per day. Once I got my hands around the "right" kind of electronic cigarette that made me fully stop smoking for good I was set, and even if you can stick to it for a week and tried one cigarette it would taste disgusting to you. The reason I quoted the "right e-cig" because obviously there is not just one kind out there that is for everyone.

Blus and anything you find at walgreens or gas stations is gonna be a jip. They fill most of those with Dekang E-liquids. A blus cartridge holds about 1ml. You buy a 5 pack of the prefilled cartridges for like 15 dollars. But if you just fill it yourself you can get 10ml of Dekang fluid of any nicotine level all over the internet for 2-5 dollars.

When a disposable e-cigs boasts on their box about how many puffs it's rated for you should know that they count 1 puff to be a 2 second pull. Lots of people pull longer than that. So rated 300 puffs, could mean you'll actually get 150 or less, who knows.

I've dedicated most of this year to helping a company promote electronic cigarettes and watching people really loving it is a good feeling. Lots of people come in with the "I bought the blu pack" story. Since there are so many out there I've been successfully directing people towards electronic cigarettes. They won't always work for everyone but 85% return with positive reviews on keeping off of cigarettes. I'm good at matching a set up according to you. I've played with mostly every kind of device out there right now.

You can PM me and I could probably answer any question you would have about getting the right kinda set up based off of what your smoking habits were like, down to the very fine detail so I could recommend which clearomizer would be right for the kind of puff experience you want to get off it. There are so many different kinds of advanced set ups. They all have their perks. But they all also need a minute amount of maintenance once in a while. Mainly changing out the heating coil because it gets gunked up.

It winds up being pennies compared to cigarettes when you've got the correct set up for you.

Holy shit is that better with the whole tobacco extract. Now there's just no reason to smoke...ever. This probably makes it a bit more addictive though.

Seriously, blue has no taste at all, it feels like Logics do, when theyre at the end and running out and you cant get a hit. except its like that, when theyre fresh out the package.

Also, their menthol one, tastes like youre inhaling the steam off of a cup of peppermint tea, nothing at all remotely like a cig. the Logic menthol is still kinda candy caney but DEFINITELY the best menthol ecig ive tried by far.

The eonsmoke sucks too, cant seem to get a decent hit off it. im a newport smoker so i need to FEEL my hits lol and logic is the only one that has been able to give me a nice decent hit that i can FEEL. the rest are just like, air vapors. so weak.

Ill say it again, Logics the way to go, whether u pick menthol or regular, its def. the most satisfying and overall best taste. logic FTW!

plus, even when i stay puffin the shit outta it, it lasts like 2 days.

I couldn't agree with this more (I basically posted a very short version of this in my first post in this thread). The Blu e-cigs are a ripoff. They make such a tiny hole above the cartridge which limits air flow and is probably so they can justify the amount of hits you get from each one, but each hit is weak as hell. Plus, the hole is right by where you normally hold it so you're always accidentally covering it which cuts off the hit. My other complaint with them is that they have like a mocha latte type taste that isn't at all like tobacco, which is another reason it sucks as an alternative to cigarettes.

The only complaint that I have with the logics are the crackling noise you get from some hits. It kinda bugged me out and made smoking them seem more dangerous I guess. Like wtf am I inhaling that makes a crackling noise as it's vaped, ya know?

I tried a bunch of others when the guy at the smoke shop hooked me up for spending a ton there, and none of them did it for me quite like the logic platinums.

That's generally considered a good noise. It means your system is working. It's the liquid being heated by the heating element in order to turn it into vapor.

Awesome, Thanks Laika. I will definitely will take you up on that offer. I know that anything that I buy from a store like Walgreens is definitely wasting my money, but if Blu is keeping me from buying and smoking cigarettes it's still money well spent in my opinion. As I was transitioning from smoking to vaping, it took about a week before smoking a cigarette started to taste like complete shit. Apparently my sense of smell, or the ability to smell cigarettes on others who have just finished smoking, was really dulled before, because now it is so obvious when someone has smoked. I would even dare to say that it stinks now. It's really weird to say this but it is true.

Do not buy Dune disposables! I bought one to smoke in a casino... While I smoked in the room, the LED wouldn't turn off! Meaning that the ecig was heating, even though I wasn't inhaling.. After about 2 min it kept going, and it got so hot I had to throw it in the bathtub.

I came back and the battery had melted through the plastic, fucking insane.
These are available at gas stations near you.
 
Anyone else use an e-cig?

I recently just got an e-cig (Smoov brand). So far it's been so much better than using actual cigarettes. I can get my nicotine fix WHEREVER I want. Can't really beat it. Plus, I'm asthmatic so if I kept smoking at the rate I was I would be fucked by the time I hit 30.

Anyway, does anyone else here use one? If so, what flavors are good to try? So far I've tried Maxi-Tobacco, Cinnamon Caramel, Brandy Egg Nog and Strawberry Banana.

P.S. I think it's probably too early for any credible studies, but does anyone have any idea of possible risks with using e-cigs? It's over 90% water, the rest is propylene glycol, glycerin, food flavors, and 2.4% nicotine.

I use the cig2o sometimes. Its not bad for when you cannot smoke somewhere.

Logic tastes the best but I need a charger. They sell the things pre-charged and cartridges but you cannot buy the chargers in the store. What a fucking ripoff. You gotta order the charger online. Why not sell it in the store?

Reviving this thread to say that this is true! Having the right setup is the key, and you do need to invest a few bucks at first, but not as much as people think... You can try different setups in actual ecig stores now, instead of buying stuff on the internet without knowing if you'll like it. I think it's cheaper to get started now than it was a few years ago.

Not sure if I can mention prices on this subject but I'll try - a (very good) 10ml eliquid bottle costs me 8$ at my favorite local store and lasts me a little more than a week.
A pack of cigarettes costs 11$ and lasts me 2 days, sometimes less... You can save even more money by making your own liquids.
So once you have the proper equipment it's definitely cheaper in the long run.

So, what choices are good now 2015? Looking at eGo CE4 right now, it's very affordable and looks clean. Anyone got any better suggestions? Should I put some more money into it and get something more exclusive? I am going to use it alot after all.

Also, what liquid strength should I choose? I smoke about 4 cigs daily with 0,6mg nicotine.
 
kanger EvoD is probably the best starting kit available at the minute. the EvoD is the best "cheap" clearomizer at the moment.
 
It's now june of 2015 and the vaping world has come a long way since this thread started. Disposables and to a large degree all cig-alike electronic cigarettes are virtually irrelevant to the large majority of users. They primarily serve as a short term introduction to vaping and not much else. The selection of devices has grown exponentially and the cost has dropped proportionately... I've been vaping for better than two years now after smoking for 20+ years a,d I've not looked back once. Happy vaping!
