So a little background- I'm not new to using DXM, I've been using it recreationally since I was about 15. I'm 20 now. And I know there are plenty of people out there who discourage DXM use, but I'm rather attached to it and intend to keep using it. I recently took a long break from it, while also nursing a minor (as they go) heroin addiction. I'm clean off the dope now, for a few months and recently decided that I wanted to trip on DXM again. I was a little nervous, as I've had some bad experiences (most likely related to the fact that I was on Concerta at the time as well as smoking while tripping and I'm ubersensitive to stimulants), so my first trip I took a Klonopin (which I'm prescribed to) and 240 mg of DXM (I use Coricidin; I'm aware of the dangers of anticholinergic toxicity so I limit myself to 2nd plateau trips with the stuff and find that nicotine helps greatly with the unpleasant antihistamine effects). Normal come-up, but the trip was extremely light, which I attributed to the Klonopin. So the next time I took DXM I took half a Klonopin and 480 mg DXM. Same, no decent trip. The next time I took 300 mg with no Klonopin, and still no trip. I should point out that before I took my break from DXM I was using about 300-420 mg each time I tripped (and I was tripping several times a week at that point) and tripping as hard as I intended to.
I'm really hoping someone can offer some input on why this might be happening. A few thoughts:
I'm on the SSRI Zoloft (50 mg) but I can't imagine that would inhibit DXM trips. Also I've been on it while using DXM before and never had this effect. I know of the potential for Seretonin Syndrome and I'm careful.
I'm also on the mood stabilizer Lamictal, which might have more potential for inhibiting trips? It does dull me out a lot emotionally so though I don't really know the chemistry/biology behind any of this stuff I could see it having more of this effect.
Is it possible that taking Klonopin earlier- like i dunno 10-24 hours before taking DXM could affect the trip?
I know that DXM acts similar to an opioid in some ways- could my increased opioid tolerance have any effect?
I also want to point out that a friend of mine, also a long time DXM user, has also been unable to trip recently. She's recently been put on Trileptal, which is what leads me to think the mood stabilizers might have something to do with it.
