DXM while on st john's wort - safe?

i'm on st john's wort, and i'm really feeling DXM (lower range - like 200-300mg)... is this safe?

SJW has a complex pharmacological profile, but it does involve MAOI action so the safe advice would be to not do it. I'm not sure at what dosages you'd want to be concerned just keep in mind that they do interact

Should not be taken with MAOI's or SSRI/SNRIs/other things that inhibit serotonin reuptake.

St. John's Wort inhibits serotonin reuptake, and inhibits metabolism of a number of amines, and has a history of contributing to serotonin syndrome

Hence, no, don't do this!

TK; I recently did 300mg of DXM while on a daily regimen of SJW and it was fine. I think as long as you're not going too high on the DXM dose it's probably fine. SJW is mainly an SSRI; it's an insignifigant MAOI, dietary restrictions not needed, etc.

Have benzos around incase of course.

I want to take a high DXM dose (11mg/kg, 720mg) in a week but i'm actually on St john Wort. Is a break of 1 week sufficient?

Typically for MAOIs you would want a two week washout period before starting anything that may cause hypertensive crisis or serotonin syndrome. But as noted SJW is a bit more complex than pharmaceutical MAOIs.
