DXM vs Secret Agent Lemon!!

Well, I'm thinking I'd like to venture into the foyer of DXM again after a not do hot experiance. The only product I have access to with DXM only in it is Tussin Maximum Strength cough syrup, suprise suprise. Now, even the smell of the stuff gets my stomuch to turn, and I hate the "syrupy" texture of it so I was looking up ways to extract it an done is called Secret Agent Lemon, one that uses ether (buyable at any hardware or grocery store) and lemon juice or lemaon concintrate. Does this actually work or it is another erban legand? Any suggstions?
