DXM turned my anus into a volcano - and what the hell happened to Codeine Linctus?

Okay so I assume this isn't normal... you guys and girls would have surely warned me, right? I trust you, fellow Bluelighters.

I'll start from the beginning:
I've had a pretty bad cough the past week or so, and pholcodine hasn't been doing anything for it. I've been meaning to try DXM for a while now, and saw this as naught but an opportunity. I've read through a few threads, trip reports, websites etc. on DXM... The usual drill. I was warned of "gastrointestinal disturbances", but let me tell you... that is quite possibly the literal understatement of the century if describing what I am currently experiencing.
I decided to go for a first plateau experience to test the waters. When I got to ASDA, it turns out they're only doing Robitussin in 100ml bottles nowadays (I assume to reduce the potential for abuse - HA!); I had originally intended to go for 150ml, but oh well, really couldn't be bothered shopping round for another bottle. Got home, did an allergy test (little sip), waited 2 hours and nothing. So I swigged the bottle. That's 150mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide (7.5mg per 5ml).

Within 45 minutes there was a rumbling from my GI tract. Over the next 30 minutes this intensified to what can only be described as a thunderstorm in my abdomen, and an earthquake measuring 8.4 on the Richter scale in my colon. Without going into gory details, I think volcano describes what I experienced in the bathroom pretty accurately. So... either I've had a bad reaction, or the information I read on DXM neglected to tell me to cram a pack of loperamide down my throat before dosing. Which is it?

Also, what the hell happened to Codeine Linctus in the UK? Nowhere sells it anymore. Has Pholcodine replaced it completely? I've found it in one online pharmacy but I don't fancy paying £5 delivery for a £1.75 item. Are the no brick and mortar stores stocking it anymore?
 
A lot of people I know shit like crazy after dosing DXM, also a lot get bad gas. Vomiting is a common occurrence as well. When I would do DXM way back when, I threw up every single time I dosed, it was like clockwork; I would throw up and then 5 minutes later, proceed into tripping balls. Comes with the territory IMO.
 
Fair enough. Might take me a while to gather the courage to do it again, and at higher doses. It's been about 3.5 hours since I dosed and my stomach and ass are still just going crazy.

There's no dodgy other ingredients in the stuff, so guess it must just be the DXM.
 
if it's been that long since you ingested it, it sounds like it could be more complicated than just a general side effect.

also, could nerves//excitement//anticipation have anything to do with it? my tummy goes crazy before i use MDMA, for instance because i'm excited about it. or perhaps because you had read that this was a possibility, it's psychosomatic? however, like i mentioned before, 3.5 hours is quite a while for it still to be affecting you so negatively.
 
so sorry to hear about bung volcano and trumpet blasts .
some cheap highs just ain't worth the doing .

Hmmm, possibly, but I don't think so. I am generally drug naive, only really done weed, a few legal highs, and am pretty much a codeine addict; however, I wasn't expecting hardly anything from such a low dose so the usual nerves which would be expected were not apparent. It's calmed quite a lot in the past hour to be honest. Still not quite normal, but I think I'm going to be okay. Doubt I'll try it again though.

Ah, who am I kidding... I'll be getting two bottles of the stuff by the end of the week ;)

No one any info on the codeine linctus?
 
Codeine Linctus is still a P medicine at the 15mg/5ml strength- legal to sell over the counter.
Like Cyclizine and Gees linctus, very few pharmacies will allow it to be sold due to serious abuse. Try an independent- or Pulmo Bailly which is a more widely sold codeine linctus but is 4 quid a bottle and only 7mg/5ml. (not a serious option for codeine addicts, much more expensive than CWE.)
Codeine Phosphate Syrup is illegal to sell without a script (that's 25mg/5ml). If they try to sell they "can't" give it to you, quote this so they know not to fob you off. The ploy of claiming there is NONE in stock and offering pholcodine instead is well-known by now- tell them you don't believe them if they say this.
 
I've had a few bad experiences with dxm in that category
most notably when I straight up shit my pants at my girlfriends house when she was sitting right next to me in grade 9

Haha bro picturing this just made my day, thanks ;) What'd your girlfriend say? Was it a loud fart with a bunch of liquid shit so she knew right away or did it come out silently and you had to be like "uhh, I'm gunna need to borrow some pants..." and explain what just happened.

I think it has to do with all the sugar(s) they put in the syrup to make it go easy on the tongue. Even if it was sold in the UK, the polystirex would not help if ass-eruptus was a problem for someone.

Cheers man, pharmacists can be complete cocks. The assistants even more-so. I'm still searching for a place that'll sell me promethazine, they all look me up and down then say "we don't sell it"... not quite sure why, I don't look that much like a drug user. You're right in that I am looking for an alternative to CWE; it becomes more hassle than it's worth when your tolerance gets to a certain point.

That's pretty epic, shitting your pants infront of your girlfriend... you just brightened up my day at work :D

Anyone know if swallowing say, 10mg of loperamide would help combat the explosive anus syndrome?
 
I'm assuming you took the "dry cough" one. With no nasty guaifenesin to hurl your guts up. However even if you did, cough medicines are loaded with artifical sweeteners any number of which you may have been sensitive to. Not to mention glycerol...
...oh God the glycerol that has been known to cause nasty gastrointestinal effects when consumed in large amounts on occassion.
 
Pure DXM powder is quite readily available online, and is probably not only safer but cheaper than Robitussin (sorry mods if this is too close to sourcing but it seemed reasonable in the pursuit of HR).
 
The gastrointestinal problems with DXM are so severe for me I will never take it again, it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable to the point where I had to lay down and any slight movements made me feel like I was going to throw up. The gas/nausea/intestinal pain makes this drug not worth it for me.
 
I'm not a fan of DXM at all, but when I did try it we always did the red clear robotussin coughgels. Nothing else in them and you don't have to drink a bunch of nasty syrup. But maybe DX just doesn't agree wiith your body. You aren't missing much IMO
