is she scared of the taste or is she scared of the trip? either way, it needs to be her decision. if she is curious about it, she needs to be the one doing the research.
you should _NEVER_ take anything without knowing what it will do to your body. its very easy in our society to walk into any pharmacy and have a plethora of OTC drugs to fix any ailment. this creates a false sense of security in trusting drugs available to us. i dont even trust my doctor when i'm prescribed a drug for the first time. people are fallible and doctors are people, so i hope you see where i'm going with that.
do your own research. if she really wants to try, and you'd like to help her, encourage her to read the DXM section on erowid. check out the experiences as well. i highly recommend the DXM FAQ. its quite extensive but if you're going to be ingesting a chemical, its worth your life to put a little time into some background research.
both you and her will have a much more enjoyable trip. as with any drug, and even more so with disassociatives/psychadelics, set and setting matter the most. if you go in with a comfortable mind set with at least some idea of what to expect, you'll have a much more enjoyable trip.
have fun, be safe
