When taking 30mg DXM to potentiate opiates, is it necessary to take the DXM before/at the same time?
For example, if you took some opiates (1/3 dose) with benzos, found that you overestimated the benzos, and wanted to take 30mg DXM to strengthen the opiates, after say 1-2 hours had passed since the benzos/opiates hit/plateaued, would the DXM still affect the opiates?
This might belong in Other Drugs, but no one there really knew. No one also knew whether mixing 30mg DXM + Klonopin or Xanax + hydrocodone/dihydrocodeine was safe with an SSRI.
All of the above use CYP3A4 except for DXM, which uses 3a4 and 2d6 equally. However, my SSRI uses 2d6 and inhibits it, forcing DXM to use 3a4, and hydro/dhc to use 3a4 (they already use 3a4 far more than 2d6 anyway, even without the SSRI's effect).
I was wondering if this would be too much of an overload on the cyp3a4 enzyme, and could be dangerous?
If not, it'd allow me to cut opiate doses by 1/4, which equals $$$.
