DXM extraction

I have seen that it's advised to use pure Naphta found as VM&P in Ace Hardware, however in the Philippines they don't sell this.

The next comes Zippo Lighter fluid, but some said that sometimes it may make a bad taste which would stay along the trip.

What other product could I use as a non-polar solvent which I'm more likely to find locally? How about a typical kerosene sold in the petrol stations?

Also something to elavate the pH.
I have found locally a product called Gi Pure Lye with ingredients listed as:

94% Sodium Hydroxide
2% Sodium Bicarbonate
4% Inner Ingredients

It's a big can, when I open it, there are small white chunks of white 'stones'. Its labeled 'to be used to clean toilets'. Could it be used safely?

Xylene

Anybody ever used Xylene? It seems it's being recommended over Naphta/Zippo.
What kind of household products I can find it to be in enough quality to be used for DXm extraction? I assume I'll not find 'Xylol' here in Philippines, so I prefer a wider range of products to be able to choose from.

Xylene (Xylene is used as a solvent and in the printing, rubber, and leather industries, available in the pain stripper department of your local hardware store under brand names such as Xylol).

Sorry ranidf for the late reply.
About the lye:
Although main purpose of it, is to adjust the pH, the purity seems to be most concerned as industrial process often include harmful contaminant. so..
4% Inner Ingredients <--- This is what is unknown.
Though it can be used, but no one knows what the 4% are, and if they contain harmful materials and/or if the harmful material (if exist) will contaminate to the end product.

I would suggest you to find laboratory grade NaOH or other bases.

About nonpolar solvents:
Any nonpolar solvents works well, as it doesnt play a role in chemical interactions, they are just used to "dissolved" the substance you want (in this case DXM freebase). Again, what to concern is the purity. however this can be test quite easy, find a glass and drops 5-6 drops of your solvent onto it. let it evaporate, then pick the glass up and see if there is anything left.

If there is no residue, it should be considered OK to use. (try rotating the glass to many direction, it should look clean like new glass without the "ring-like" strain on it)

Ok, thanks. I understand the theoretical dangers of using household products, but on the other hand in 3rd world countries thats what we have to deal with.

But as I understand I can use the Lye with 4% inner ingridients, I just have to make a mirror check, right?

Otherwise I seen some posts advocating for making DXM HCL in powder form.
They say the effects and the afterglow is better, but I couldn't find any detailed explanation of extraction processes to make DXM HCL.

It would be also to get more comments from those who tried HCL form and could comment if there is actually difference from Hbr.
