DXM Extraction using NaOH (PRO HELP NEEDED)

So there's a shitton of threads and articles out there. some agent lemon based, some using sodium hydroxide. But let me set this straight for the record so i know what i did right/wrong and so i dont end up blue pale and without a pulse next time i try this!!
Well today i found some pure 100% Lye (Pure Sodium Hydroxide) and decided to give it a whirl - decided to follow this method.
1. mix a bottle of cough syrup with 1/4 inch naptha - shake for 5 min.
2. put in a bag and hang for 5 min. and drain and discard the naptha layer.
3. mix the naptha/dxm product with a NaOH mixture and shake for 5 min.
4. add 1/4 inch more naptha and mix for an additional 5 min.
5. let sit 10 min. and drain the bottom layer, saving the clear top part.
6. boiled it 5+ min.
TO MY KNOWLEGE I NOW HAD PURE DXM..

you are left with a shotglass maybe two of this clear substance..
what i want to know is..?
1) i looked at Agent Lemons final DXM product and it looked murky red instead of clear.. then again i did use a different solution.
2) it smelled somewhat like naptha.
is this normal or did i Fuck up somewhere major along the way???

edit: i did not drink my final product. it was a trial run per se.

so you have freebase DXM in naptha. you need to evaporate ALL the naptha from your product before you attempt to consume. best way is to put it in a shallow dish so there is a large amount of surface area. do not consume until it does not smell like naptha at all.

also, you should do an evap test of your naptha on a clean glass dish. it should evaporate cleanly with zero residue. if not, you need to discard and look for another brand.

lemme know how this goes. I was going to attempt the ammonia/naphtha method. still considering it.

yeah i tried the ammonia-naptha method. but unless you have the right ammonia it wont separate correctly
